Important! : Smoke from passenger side of engine now Car wont start

  1. #1
Ok today driving home my petrol ran outside my house. Wasn't too bothered so I just went home and thought I'd fill up later. So 4 hours later I went to petrol station and put a fiver in the petrol can to put in my car. Did that. Tried to start the engine up to go out and the engine sounded like it was struggling to start then I noticed smoke coming from the passenger side of the engine, not a lot and just for a few seconds.

Opened the bonnet an it looked liked it was coming from the fuse box. an it smelt like it to. Now I'm not 100% sure what could of caused it. The only changes I made recently was yesterday I put a new Genesis profile four ultra amp and a JBL 14001e amp in my car, along with 0awg etc (both amps draw a fair amount of current). Also my mate put in some HID lights on Friday.

Also car was getting quite hot today, as fan was playing up, but nothing major on that one.

Could any of these have caused the issue or could it be something completely un-related?

    Appreciate any help guys.

Sounds like while messing with the electronics of your car an earth wire may have come dislodged and playing havoc with your car electrics, just a suggestion.

the headlights work, stereo etc. but the car wont start up now, like i said a little smoke, then no stat. it sounds like its trying, almost like no fuel getting to the engine

    Put moar fuel in it

I will put more in but I thought a fiver would be enough, also how does that relate to smoke coming from the fuse box. could i have blown something that didnt have a fuse?

also might want to check the fuel reset thingy red button by master cylinder also check relays and all fuses in fuse box make sure they are all ok

Possibly be starter motor going bad (under the strain if you were turning car over for a while waiting for fuel to come though/fire up).

As above also check your wiring and make sure your circuits are all fused with a reasonably rated fuse (ie use a fuse rated slightly higher than needed but not massively higher otherwise you will not get the protection needed).

I reckon a relay has blown or some wiring, I doubt it is a fuse or there wouldn't be smoke. if it is a relay or wiring, what you reckon the costs will be?

relay or an earth like the other guy said
  10. #10
if it is a relay or earth know how much a new one cost?

Altanator ? If its drawing alot of current and your cars struggling to start that could be the problem. Get a voltimeter onto it and check the voltage, Check your battery also. Your battery should be sitting at about 9v when your trying to start the engine. Make sure you still have enough charge. Your fuel filter could also be blocked if you let the tank run out because of all the s*** in the bottom of your tank, happened to me, couldent get the car started for weeks! Try a new fuel filter and test your battery and altanator

    hope this helps
