engine troubles 16v

ok, this is taken from another forum, and was in 2 posts so I do appologise , here goes

ok so I have my saxo vts, the other day driving along it cut out, had a route around, no problems , but still wouldnt start, so whipped out the plugs, they were fucked, and new ones in away it went, but, would only rev to 5k then engine light would pop up and it would cut out , unless you changed gear and you could carry on to 5k again.

so I lived with this for a couple of days, and randomly, it cured itself. woo, untill last night, when it cut out again, roadside spark test , and they were working fine, all getting spark, checked fuel cut off, all was fine, and cheecked I was getting fuel in the engine, that was fine. put the sparks back in, after changing nothing, and it was fine, untill this morning, when it broke again, and i ditched it roadside, I have a hunch its coilpack, but wondered if anyone else had an experience such as this, and could perhaps shed some light.

    and then today ...

ok, so it got scanned, no faults, clearly there are lol, new coilpack , plugs and its still the same, adjusted the power boost valve, no difference, took it off , no difference, now what ill ask is, would a blocked fuel filter , or dodgy fuel pump cause it to cut out when revved up? or am I looking at a hefty bill for a new ecu? i have a video of what it does, so ill try to post that in a minute ooo and to add, when it starts to go funny, disconnect the battery, put it back on , and it runs fine for a while

really would appreciate any help possible, many thanks

    Hi,

The engine light can flash to indicate a misfire. I too would suspect the coilpack and crankshaft position sensor (aka TDC sensor and Engine Speed Sensor RPM).

As you've tackled the first, whip out the TDC sensor and give it a clean - it works magnetically by sensing missing teeth in the flywheel.

Fuel starvation - possible cause. But I'd rule out the above first.

    Hi,

As you have discovered, this problem can come and go with temperature and time so it is hard to be really sure when you've fixed it. Can't imagine a new one of these is expensive.

Just checked the price for a Mk2 VTS = £21.35 inc VAT and looks like its the same part for the Mk1. "SPEED SENSOR" Citroen Part: 1920 5T
