Important! : Fast road/track suspension set up advice please

  1. #1
Sorry for the important prefix! iPhone says I have to choose one!

Anyway, I have about 400 quid to spend on suspension.
I am starting to do some track days now so want to sort it out.

What is a good set up for my budget?

    Cheers

    have you tried a search?

sure this question has been asked so many times.... i just searched.

i've decided to go for b8's with faulkner springs from KamRacing.

or go GroupN's with harder springs if you don't care about comfort as much.

Are you starting completely from scratch with a bog standard suspension?

Are you wanting to spend the entire £400 just on springs/dampers or is it £400 only to include as many bits as possible such as bushes or strut braces etc etc?

Didn't think to search! My bad!

I bought the car lowered already on unknown springs and standard shocks. But my right rear shock has failed so I figured I'll replace all 4.

I just want shocks and springs for now. Will replace bushes etc at a later date.

Oh and I have an e-tech upper front strut brace.

IMO, its only worth spending that bit more on the suspension if you are definatly going to commit to buying all the other chassi parts like engine mounts, bushes and mounts and tyres, brakes throughout the car.

If not, then the apex kit is more than adequate.

Good stuff, so when you say "about £400" to spend is there any stretch on that?

    If so:

Billie Group N front dampers, B8 rears with GMC springs will be a great buy at just under £450

Or for £465 you can get the above but with the group N rear dampers instead of the B8's

    As above,

The billies and the GMC springs will be great but if you're not looking to go the whole hog with the other bits and bobs the Apex kit is very very good for its price and you'd still have money left over to buy other bits

Oh yeah, I'll defo go the whole way with it at some point. I always put good tyres on it. And I already have GTi-6 brakes with ferodo pads up front.

I just had a look at kam racing site.
If I get b8 billies with 155 faulkners that would leave a few quid for bushes/mounts.

    What you guys think?

Can't see any Billies listed on Kamracing, are you sure theyre still stocking them? (I dont think im going blind)

B8's with the Faulkners will be a very adequate combination too if thats more suitable price wise

Group N's with GMC springs = AWESOME setup !
  12. #12
    Get some Billies on......................lol....best buy.....
  13. #13
Is there much difference between b8's an group N's?

What will the ride height be?
  14. #14
And what lb rating are the gmc springs?

Roughly 160-170lb I think - they feel more than stiff enough on the road

    Hmmm.
I'm gonna go for group n up front and b8 at the rear.
Question now is faulkner springs or gmc?

We are making a few changes to make it easier to see the Bilstein products
We now have some new categories.
    Individual shock adsorbers

    Damper Kits

and Suspension Kits (with bilstein combinations)

I should finish the suspension kit combinations today.
    Dont forget our discount code

well where you buying the group n's and b8's from? As this will dictate which springs to buy ?
  19. #19
    From kamracing (before discount) - grp N front + b8 rear + Faulkner springs = £440

    From gmc - grp N front + b8 rear + gmc springs = £450

    lol, hard one then.

In all honesty there probably isn't much in it on the front spring rate wise. I'd imagine the GMC are slightly harder but very marginally.

Ride height wise the kam setup will be ever so slightly lower on the front I'd say too, maybe 5mm lower.

    Upto you I suppose

    Thanks for your advice raunchz.

Think I'll go for kamracing then. Just cos it's cheaper! Lol

    And thanks to willsy too.

Can i just Hijack this thread...

Ive been looking at the same setup (for future also).

How low would this take me as im running 16's and ideally want to keep them.. ( i know 16s are probably poo for handling, but i love my Oz's )

    I've got this done now.

I'm just on standard vts alloys and there is loads of room in the arch. It's like 35-40mm drop on group n's with 155lb Faulkners.

I am well impressed! So much confidence in front end grip. It goes exactly where you put it. Not had any understeer yet. Even in the wet.
