splutter /missfire during warm up

i have a 97 vts engine in my 2000 vts after blwing up the 2000 engine (track days).

i have swaped all my old mk2 sensors over to the 97 engine. as the title above states...

the car starts perfectly and is strong from cold. drive out my street and up the road the car develops a miss and splutters at any speed/gear/throttle position. it will not clear with a blip of throttle.

    i have bought

    new plugs
    new coil pack
    new map sensor

    no better for it.

could it be the lambda, ecu fault or possibly a blocked injector? i am thinking more the lambda. mine is the 1 lambda engine

    stew

how much fuel is it using? Lambda fault was cause it to drink fuel usually..
after its warm does it still missfire mate?
  3. #3
Could try disconnecting the lambda and see if anything changes?

    Test the coolant temp sensor

Check it's resistance against the dash temp sensor
  5. #5
should they be equal? do you mean the sensor screwed in the head?

id relly like to know the answer to this mines exaxtly the same it idles lumpy too the water temp is always bottom unless sitting still but this splutter goes once cars been runnin for min or 2

time to get the multimeter out, hat off to Alex for writing this:

all sensors are new last year from dealers. ecu, water, radiator etc...

some super replys there. see what i can do with them.

i got a missfire from having the wring fuel injectors after doing a similar conversion

going to try some injector cleaner

i have a similar problem, i just bought my saxo vts on a R-reg a week ago and it splutters when when i drive slow and on tick over. but its fine when i put my foot down or go a little faster any idea what it could be?..... im sure its over fueling aswell cuz i put 20pound in petrol and gave me half a tank and only went 65miles and didn boot it once and its just on top of the red now

well just to update you i changed my whole thermostat housing and had another sensor in it though it made a diff and it stopped the spluttering but still have a lumpy idle and temp gauge sits so low when driving, confusing.

Well that hints at a few things being wrong.

Either the dash coolant temp gauge is buggered, or the wiring or dash unit is faulty.

did you fit a new thermostat. sounds like what is causing the over cooling issue.

ive tried with two different thermostats make no diff on the dash when temo guage gets to about the bottom line sightly above that the thermostat opens you can feel the ho water go through the top pipe it will hit middle than fan kicks in but when you drive away the guage on dash drops down slowly. abit odd. so its that and the lumpy idle.
