Idle problem

    Had to have a new engine fitted in my mk 1 vtr, since then idling hs been quite high, was revving up to 2500. So swapped off the original icv, inlet manifold, throttle body and its now stopped revving as high, tends to sit around 1500. Any ideas what the problem might be? they wont do my emissions test because of it so cant get a mot. Also checked for any air leaks and there was none.

    map sensor, ecu coolant temp, idle control, throttle pot sensor?

    So presumeably the easiest way is to get it on a diagnostic thing and find out what the sensors are all doing?

    Check the thottle cable isn't sticking.

    Thats what i thought... Being as it idled at about 1200 when we swapped over all the other bits, then as soon as it comes to testing the emissions, it shoots back up to about 1600 and they complain about the idle being too high
