Few 106 GTi questions

Hey guys,

Nice to be back on here

Just bought a 51 plate 106 GTi and have several questions!

Under the dash, behind the glove box dangling is 2 large connectors, one brown and one grey.. Any ideas what I'm missing if anything?

Also, the recirculation thing that goes from the side of the head to a thing on top of the manifold and off through a black pipe... What is this, do I need it and can it be removed / blanked?

Next up, I have a newer style remote from say a 206, all codeds and working, which came with the car - only thing is, the alarm doesn't do anything.. Should it?
My indicators don't flash on locking or anything?

Front fogs... These work when I flash and with my main beam, but I have no stalk switch.. Should I have?

Then another one - I see abs under the bonnet I think, and sensors and a traction control light in my speedo, but it doesn't work and there is no abs light or anything, however my handbrake / brake fluid warning light is always on!

Aside those few things, I love it though, the power from a 1.6 is brilliant!

Thats where the standard alarm control box should be plugged into in sure...

The abs warning light might not be on as people often remove the bulb to get them through the mot.

The pipe coming from above the exhaust mani, does it in into the airbox? If so it supplys Hot air to help the car run on cold days. You can just rip it off as its pretty useless.

Thanks guys - Sorry for the slow reply.

I think many of these are irrelevant now, i picked the car up last sunday, had a blowout and bent a wishbone monday, repaired it friday and got driven into friday night!

I'm still driving it, but the damage is estimated at well over 2 grand, so basically i'm pretty sure the next few days will see it written off!

Ah well, Lexus time and breaking the 106!

you dont have front fog lamps. You have driving lamps which come on with full beam like 205 gti's did

As above, the front 'fogs' are driving lights, they're designed to come on with main beam to aid visibility.

The pipe on the engine is an EGR valve, basically lowers emissions, yes it can be taken off and blanked, there's a few guides knocking about.

ABS not working, and brake light on on the dash usually relates to lack of fluid, check that, if there's plenty of brake fluid, then it's time to get a bit dirty, sometimes the ABS sensors (near the hubs, at the end of the driveshafts) get covered in crap, and need a clean, try that, that's the cheap option, if that doesn't work, then chances are they need replacing, although they wouldn't normally bring on the brake light....

Alarm issues I can't help with.
