oil leak after new catalytic converter - connected?

    Hiya,

I'm a newbie - so please bear with me! I own a 52 plate VTR (so it's about 8 1/2 years old). No non-manufacturer/standard mods that I know of.

Recently got a new catalytic converter, and less than 10 days later (less than 150 miles) I have a pretty rapid oil leak (a drop every second or so). Took it back to Kwik Fit who had a look, initially thought it was a bust filter, but then said it was a crack (in the housing) near the filter and a complete replacement was required. I have not hit anything or driven above 3000rpm since the new cat was installed, 'coz I was told to take it easy for the first 100-200 miles.

What I wondered was: how does this kind of thing occur and what is the likelihood that the cat replacement was connected? Seems odd to me that a problem of this kind, which there was no sign of only last week, would appear from nowhere, just after having work done...

I would really appreciate your opinions on this... even if I'm completely barking!

    Cheers

unfortunatly you took it to qwik fit, i wouldnt say their work is quality. they most likly broke it while fitting the cat.

I know... but the 3 year unlimited mileage warranty was what convinced me to go with them...

Just wondered how much grief I'd get if I said that I expected them to pay for the repairs!

well its not goin to be hard to fix if its just a busted filter even if its a mk1 or mk2. best you can do is take it back to them and say... "look what you tards have done!!!" pics would help alot
