Are my plates legal? (MOT passable?)

  1. #1
Hey got a MOT coming up soon and iv got these number plates, not sure if having a background is legal or if the font is legal?
Are they legal and or would fail the MOT?

    Help?
    Thanks Tom

i'd say so .. there clear enough to see .. so ye
  3. #3
Yeah thats what i thought, thanks!

no worries youth, equally if your still unsure just go down to any garage and ask them

The font and background are illegal and if the copper is in a bad mood you could get a ticket. Mot wise they're clear enough to see so will probably pass

Not too worried about police, dont ever see any around by me and not planning on driving too far in a 1.1 would be bored out of my head!

    But thanks for the reply

i agree that there illegal but they should pass mot cause like me and dt_ say there clear enough but it depends if the coppers round your end are arseholes or not .. and if they are and pull ya .. then you know that it will be best just to take them off ha

Id say technically not, but there not all that in your face compared to some ive seen, so as long as your mot tester isn't being really harsh you'll be ok.

Do you ever get trouble from the police about them?

my mate -jay-vtr got pulled because he had the citreon sign and logo on the background of his plates and got a 60quid penalty on the spot .. b****rds !! ha

Will most likely pass MOT as the testers never really look at the plates but they are totally illegal. Illegal background and illegal font (both size, font used and italics).

Well iv ony just got them, didnt know whether to put them on before MOT or after.

There are some cars around by me that have blaitent show plate fonts and seem to not get noticed. So HOPEFULLY i should be lucky but if not i will just have to take the fine :\

Font is very illegal, there are a choice of allowed fonts available. Id say if a copper would pull you an MOT tester definatly would

Take it to a garage, and if they say their legal, ask them for a piece of paper that states that they are legal or something.

But cant i just say they passed a MOT so i thought they were legal?

From what i thought having a valid MOT meant that your car was fit for the road at what condition it was at when it was done?

they are blatenly illegal but i agree that if you took them to a garage and ask anyway and if they are get them to sign them off as legal and keep it in your car to show police

Cheers i recon i will get them to do that if it passes with them on
  17. #17
no they wouldn't pass mot as they display no information on them about where they were made because they are illegal
  18. #18
But if you look at some number plates they still dont have the address/ postcode on them so does that make those standard plates illegal?
  19. #19
    They should be!
Depends on how friendly your MOT tester is...

Ok had the MOT today, the plates failed. They are fine except they must have a post code of the makers on them. As these dont they failed!
  21. #21
Yea they dont have the codes on... OH btw... not all garages check that code, try sumwere else.

Oh right well there is a little bit of other work that needs doing so they are just going to do it all :\ expensive month for me.
