Fuel

    Just had my head, radiator and battery replaced [a week ago] and since it's been done my fuel consumption has been stupidly low.

    I.e. I have a MK1 VTR, before this I used to put in £25 [@ £1.14] worth on a sunday and that would get me to and from work [18 miles round trip] every day, and then out and about some evenings, sometimes to and from notts, which is another 20+ miles and i'd be able to manage until the end of the week.

    I put £25 [it's still £1.14] last saturday, was gone by Wednesday, filled up on Weds, and the warning light is probably going to come on the next time I'm out.....

    Does anybody have any idea what could it be?? It's doing my head in and I'm off to Cornwall in two weeks so need to get it sorted!!!

    Does it drive the same? Any lack of power at all? Cam timing may be out by a tooth or maybe the head that replaced yours has badly seating valves that need lapping in?

    Are your tyre pressures right (this can have a big effect on mpg).

    Are you driving the car the same as before - nice weather sometimes makes the right foot a bit heavier!

    Hmmm.... There is some lack of power sometimes when I accellerate...
    Had two new tyres on the front a few days ago, so I'm guessing they're okay so I'll check the back two.

    Will check out the cam timing and head aswell.... Thanks for the advice, will check out all of these things and hopefully I won't be forking out the earth for mug longer because I can't afford it much longer !
