gmc manifold problem

  1. #1
As the title, i was driving up the m56 and suddenly smoke pouring out the bonnet, knocked engine off straight away and pulled in, had a look and the manifold has melted a hole in the oil filter, its an inch away from it and has been on the car for a couple of months now, just woundering why its melted it now and if anyone else has had similar problems? i bought a new oil filter housing today and made a steel heatshield to cover it so should be alright now, if happens again i think il convert it to a mk1 style oil filter

    any comments welcome, cheers!

either that or put some heat wrap on you mani

It has done it know because every journey has slowly melted it and distorted it until, on this journey, it ruptures

The GMC was probably designed for the Mk1 originally hence the close clearance with the oil filter. I know the supersprint 4-2-1 has a similar issue so you need to protect the oil filter from the heat of the manifold.
Give John a call and ask him?

cheers guys, iv wrapped the mani now and its got that shield on it too so see how it goes, not sure if its a mk1 mani, the guy i got it off had it on his mk2 for a while with no probs so maybe just my driving lol, il see what john says so glad i bought aa relay when i got the car!!!

could convert the car to run a mark 1 filter setup
pretty easy to do tbh and will solve your issue completely as its a metal filter further away

You managed to get some heat wrapping and wrap the manifold in one day. That's commitment.

good you got it sorted but you had me worried there for a minute as i've got a gmc mani on my white vts

its heatwrapped though and even with it running 240ish bhp at some point its not got hot enough to melt the filter (with mine being a mk1, then like kam says the filters further away anyhow )

If its mild steel then its for a MK1 -=
-only ever made the mk2 vtr maniflds in s/s and they have loads of clearance
