I have an MOT advisory that says, Offside Front (Floor) suspension mounting prescribed area is corroded but not considered excessive.

2001 MK2 VTR in case you were wondering.

Does that sound like it needs attention before it gets worse.. Can i even stop the rust, Or do you just treat it ?

    Thanks.

sand the rust. buy some metal mesh, filler that in and get spraying

Only way is to get down and have a look and poke about. Nothing is unsavable. All that changes is the cost and time involved.

It may just be where idiots jack the car up on (that is not really a jacking point). This area has 2 or 3 rubber plugs in it and these places tend to rot out. Easy fix if thats the case fella.

nothing is too far gone if you have the money to throw at it mate , though i doubt your cars that bad , give it all a washing down underneath , scrape off any old lose rust protection and get your brush out , if anything needs doing it won't cost you the earth as its not cosmetic work outside panels and spraying .... i paid 20 squid for a patch to my inner arch meets boot inc rustproofing

Get under it with a grinder take it down to bear metal and weld it. It will just keep rusting, the only way to stop rust is to cut it out. don't go putting filler on the chassis its just stupidity.

wash it, metal brush it, sand it, clean it again, hammerite it. It's easy, just need a bit of time

at least now youve got a year to sort it rather than the two week period before a retest. get it done before the salty roads in winter make it any worse

Well... Update.... the advisory was from last year you see... I was just concerned.
