Banging in Flat archs to accommodate for vtr alloys

  1. #1
righttt so heres the thing i got some vtr alloys for my flat arch sax but the tyres rub on the back archs when i have 2 or more people in the back.

and i was just wondering how easy it is too bang the archs out yourself and how you would go about doing it?

Get harder shocks? I spect that's easyer

Theres a metal lip on the inside arch that needs to be either cut off or bent up, I'd recommend bending them up as it keeps shell strength, remove the side strip, warm the inside lip up with heat gun and take lump hammer too it

    NO DONT DO THAT!

VTR alloys are made for the offset of the VTR/VTS disk rear beam which is about 5mm wider than the drum rear beam.

Therefore the VTR wheels will be sitting about 5mm too far in on your car.

All you need to correct it is some cheap 3mm halfords type spacers (yes 3mm is sufficient and safe) which will space the wheels out enough to clear the arches.

Do not smack your arches in as this area isnt particularly strong and is prone to rust at the join with the boot so if its upset of damaged then itll be catastrophic in the long run if things are weakened.

Heres a link for 3mm spacers

5mm spacers if you want to be 100% certain

They are less than £10 per pair with free postage.

won't i need to get longer bolts though if i get spacers?

and the tyres are rubbing on the arch lip so if i put the spacers on it will push the wheels out further onto the lip surely?

Or tell your mates to pass their tests and stop using you as a taxi

Get slimmer friends...no with 3mm spacers you will be fine with the standard bolts, it only if you go over 5mm you should get some longer ones.
