Right, i want everyone to check their back wheels for any liquid on them. Today i was happily driving along, doing about 45mph coming up to some traffic lights... I was about 40 foot away, when i pressed the break, but the break felt like the clutch! i was so confused, the breaks had stopped working, and i was only about 8ft away from the lights, but had slowed down to 40mph, had to pull the hand break up and skidded across the other side of the road! the car is now in the garage because the break fluid wire had come off the wheel, which is why the breaks didn't work. Had to spend £250 on correcting it, and i will get the car tomorrow. Everything to do with breaks had broken!!! The only thing that LUCKILY didn't break was the Main cylinder!!! Thought id give you the head up
Important! : Saxo Problem that nearly killed me!

#2now im worried lol. Good to hear your ok... Would have been tasty on a motor way.
-
#3by the sounds of it the brake line snapped or came undone and all brake fluid was lost seems a little bit expensive to replace a brake line, fill up and bleed system through, did they tell you what they replaced or actually did?
-
#4the break line end had just come off! Yeah i'm okay, its not knocked my confidence at all! cant wait to get my car back, would've been fucked on the motorway!!
-
#5This dont mean everybodys break pipe is going to break............ Mine defo wont it had new rear brake pipes 6 months ago and still fine.
-
#6i know but the mechanics said its a common thing, that happens over age... But he also said its caused a few fatalities...
-
#7scaremongerer
Its either snapped in which case it was heavily corroded and should of failed the last mot
or its been off / replaced and someone has fucked it up and just left it . -
#8jeez thats expensive for just that,no?
-
#9cant believe you paid £250 to have the pipe screwed back on then the system bled up, this is the first one i have ever heard of, think they saw you coming and mugged you for an extra 200 odd quid
-
#11everything to do with the breaks had gone, i've used the garage a load of times, and when they've always been very reasonable, the only thing they've not replaced was the main cylinder
-
#13Could have whacked second gear in then first gear while progressively pull the hand brake up.Quote:
had to pull the hand break up and skidded across the other side of the road! -
#14i wish i did now! but i didnt because i'm a retard with shit reactions! lol
-
#15so both rear cylinders have gone bias valve had gone front caliper seals if EVERYTHING exept the master cylinder had gone. even when you said they told you the pipe had snapped.
i apologise for being offish but you've been lied to and mugged off.
i assume the breaks were 'fine' before this happened? -

I agree -
#17not enough driving experienceQuote:i wish i did now! but i didnt because i'm a retard with shit reactions! lol
I suppose you had a bit of front brakes left. Try driving without braking but just using gears, you will find out that very little braking is required when you pay attention to the road and respect the distance with the vehicle in front of you.. -

#19seems to me like you have been mugged because no way would the breaks work fine one day then everything that possibly could go wrong all at once think that is 1 in a million
-
#20The car shouldnt of passed its MOT like that. Just be glad you and your car are ok could of been a lot worse.
-
#22nahh my breaks were going for ages, and it was an advisory in the MOT back in Feb..
-
#23shit that is bad good to here your ok mate!
-
#24if it was advised in february then why didnt you do something about it? and by the sound of it it should have failed and not been advised
-
#25similar thing happened to me ,i was driving about and all was fine came to some lights pressed the brake and nothing so yanked the hand brake slid the car 90 to the right, filled my pants and prayed, i stopped and all was good , pulled the car over had a look all over then realised rear brake pad had fallen off ,WTF rite and had to drive it home scraping calipa on the disk lol
-
#26Lol, A) the brakes would work if a pad fell outQuote:similar thing happened to me ,i was driving about and all was fine came to some lights pressed the brake and nothing so yanked the hand brake slid the car 90 to the right, filled my pants and prayed, i stopped and all was good , pulled the car over had a look all over then realised rear brake pad had fallen off ,WTF rite and had to drive it home scraping calipa on the disk lol

B) a pad couldn't fall out unless it disintegrated or the caliper broke
C) the Disc wouldn't scrape the caliper, as they are both separatly mounted, -
#27trust me mate ,im no mechanic but thats what happened ,my mate who is a mechanic was as confused as you and thats what he said ,and could only think someone had been fucking with my car
-
#29You wouldnt say that if you knew the problems I got with my brakes all within 1 or 2 weeks. The only non new part is 2 pipes and the master cylinderQuote:seems to me like you have been mugged because no way would the breaks work fine one day then everything that possibly could go wrong all at once think that is 1 in a million

#30if you lost brake fluild your brake warning light should have came on though tbh a berst both back wheel cylinders in mine and the light is ment to come on befor you loss it all mine did a notace the fluld on my back wheels and stuff jst kept topping me fluid up til i had a ramp free at work to fix it had to put new back shoes on too because the brake fluid had killed them once i striped the drums off also only cost me £45 for all the parts
