bleed my coolant,i know i have to turn the valve which looks like a tyre dust cap valve but do i do it with the engine on or not?Tell me as if im an idiot.lol.

make sure your engine is cold never ever do it with the engine warm!!!!!

i undid the valve whilst it was cold and nuthing came out whatsoever, did it on a flat road...

how i did it, dont know if it was the right way to do it but it worked, was to open the valve, start the engine and leave it running, let the air get out, when the water starts to get near the top of the rad, close the valve!

leave it to warm up, turn off and leave it to cool down, after a while open the value again and get rid of somemore air, whilst its warmish, be careful its not to hot though!

repeat this a few times and it should be okay!

you need to open a few bleed valves from the radiator all the way round to next to the ecu side of the engine. fill the water bottle up, keep going until water is coming out of the bleed valves. once you see water at the 1st one, lock it of and watch the next. keep doing this until all are bleeding water. then you know that there is no air in system. im sure there is 3 bleed valves, on on right top side of radiator, one on top of thermostat housing than needs an allen key to losen it (look at engine cover, its bottom right hand corner area, has a water pipe from radiator going to it) then the 3rd is on pipe next to ecu cover (top left of engine bay) its just like a tyre valve dust cap.

air in system is bad as it heats up straight away and can warp your head and knack the engine, as i nearly did

Thanks alot boz thats helps me loads. With the engine running or....?

engine running, how else does the water pump "pump" the water around!
  9. #9
    yep, engine running

you need to get a coke bottle, chop the big bottom off, then fill with water, take cap off and place in radiator neck, just what the haynes manual said lol

why was i told to do this then?!
  12. #12
because your meant to put the coolant in first then undo the valves, i meant don't unscrew the coolant cap or bleed valves when engine is hot unless you want to scald yourself!

Helpful thread, I'm curious though, when I start my car I hear a really quiet water gushing type noise and can't quite pin where it's coming from, is this related to the radiator? should I be worried at all or is this normal, as I say it is barely noticable but still.

Sound like you have an airlock - try bleeding the system to see if it sorts it out!

    fuck all that,
    just run the engine
    let it warm up
bleed valve next to ecu 1st
once thats done do the one on the thermostat housing
    next do the rad
    then repeat
just keep an eye on coolant level and keep it topped up
no need for pop bottles or turning the engine off. takes 5 mins.
