Who is the company who are doing the group buy for us?

Full details for the company who the group buy is with is as follows:

    Chris Birkbeck Rally Sport
    Low Farm
    Ings Lane
    Brotton
    Saltburn - By - Sea
    TS12 2QX
    United Kingdom

    Phone: +44 (0) 1287 677 512

They are top of the list on the Safety Devices website for official stockists too

    http://www.safetydevices.com/stockists/motorsport

When is the group buy taking place and when will payments be required

The group buy price is guaranteed for 30 days, i aim to contact them on Monday to see if they will stretch it to 45 days.

Therefore first payment required by the end of August. Final payment will be required after 4-6 weeks so aim to have final payment ready for end of September.

    Group buy details finalised

They are more than happy to extend the guaranteed price beyond the 30 days so that we can pay the first 50% at the end of August.

The 20% discount that were getting is as good as they can do as Safety Devices when supplying dont offer any more than that for bulk orders.

All they require that i get is a full list of names who are 100% in for the group buy, so far there is 8 of us. Ill give this list to them 1 week before the end of August (Monday 23rd August)

You then have just over a week (7 working days) to phone up and give them details of the cage which you require, postal details and of course pay the first 50%.

Tuesday 31st August will be the last day to pay before they place the full order with Safety Devices to get the cages made

I'll have a think and see what I can do. I was seriously tempted by the RR group buy but couldn't justify spending that much at the time. Easily the best bolt in cage available for saxo/106, can I come back to you in 2 weeks or so?
  3. #3
I'm in mate especially if the discount is as good as the 106 SD cage groupbuy !!

I'm good to make the first half of a payment early September if that sort of timescale is good with people.

If I get the rise I'm currently fighting for in work then I'm deffo in!

I presume it's a dash dodger? I can't quite tell from the pics in link.

As I suck at maths, how much do I need to put aside each week to be able to afford it? £40-50?

As far as im aware it does dodge the dash. Will certainly be asking that when i call for quotes.

this the cage i bought from your mate tom willsy?? as the 106 cage listed is different to the saxo one

If so are you going through ABP or wtf their name is,

Not sure which one Tom's was, I know he paid in excess of £800 for his. It was partially weld in with the feet too wasnt it whereas this one seems to be 100% bolt in.

Have not yet rang round for quotes, however the company that did the Rallye Reg group buy would be a good starting point i guess.
  12. #12
the saxo one is the one with welded in box sections which you bolt the cage to and double X bars on the doors.

The 106 one isnt and iirc the saxo one is the dash dodger the 106 one isnt

The plates that come with the bolt in still need welding to the shell on the 106 cage
  13. #13
Just called Safety Devices - theyll be calling me back shortly with full specification
  14. #14
I would be needing a 106 cage by the way....

If that's not a problem I'll join the list.

    Cheers Ryan,

Have just confirmed this with Safety Devices too to save any confusion.

On both the Saxo and 106 there is mounting plates which need to be welded in which the cage then bolts to.

Saxo one does dodge the dash as does the 106 one for its own dash (106 cage in saxo would require dash trim)

If still using interior parts which i doubt, you would have to cut or ditch the door cards so that the door bars fit

There is still the two options of both a single door bar and a crossed option

Just wondering then what SD cage is the one that Lewisimo and the lad from the other link have as that is 100% bolt in with no welded plates required. Old design perhaps?

They have advised that AB Motorsprot are one of their most popular stockists so ill give them a quick call now and see what prices they can do
  16. #16
Lewisimo already had plates welded in. Hank had done it before the car was resprayed.

Ah awwesome - I'd go with the single door bar I think, do they do that extra diagonal on the main hoop ?

might be worth giving this bloke a call as he supplied the cages for the last 106 SD cage groupbuy - was a cracking price and beat AB's price hands down.

Bugger slightly too late calling AB Motorsport - opening hours til 4:30 theyve already gone home for the day lol
  19. #19
Cheers Ross, ill try calling him now
  20. #20
Although the first post in that thread has been edited with the price from the bloke in page 2 - im sure the AB price was £700 plus in the groupbuy
  21. #21
And the s1 in the link was just a trial fit as the plates hadn't been welded in yet.
  22. #22
    Good news:

Just spoke to the chap who did the group buy for Rallye Reg

He is still more than willing to do another group buy

He's going to get us a price for 5 and a price for 10

He's going to get a price for all the options available too so that will include either single door bar or the double crossed and the additional diagonal on the main B pillar hoop behind t

Wicked !!! If he can get it for a similar price to the 106 groupbuy price then I'm sure we'd easily get 5 people up for it ! Made my day this has

    Aha gotcha

This is a pic from Lewisimo's

Ill do some digging for the one with the welded in plates - Took quite a few pics of one a while ago so ill raid photobucket and see what i can find
  25. #25
Welding in the plates wouldn't be too hard or costly to do really - I'm sure some of the geronimo cages that were produced just had the cage bolted in through a plate. The plate wasn't welded to the chassis at all.

I think welding the plate on is the safest bet
  26. #26
    http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/th...2-rallye-build

That's Lewisimo's (Hank's old one) See he welded the plates then had the shell sprayed.

Good news on the cage front though
  27. #27
willsy lewis everyone has the 106 cage, the plates still should be welded, like the old OMP dash dodger bolt in, alot didnt weld them in but they still should be.

pm me the supplyer whoever you get other than ABP as i need some weld in box sections

Just found some old pics from my mates old car, this is the cage which Ryan bought off him

Does the Saxo rear cage mount to the rear arches ?

And the 106 one mount to the boot floor at the rear arch/floor join ?

Ill ask about that when they call me back with prices.

Whether or not the design has changed a bit over time as from those pics its from 2008 where the B pillar bar is horizontal and not diagonal which they are now.

Id rather have mine mounted to the boot floor i think rather than the arches if possible, if it meant me going for the 106 one and trimming my dash that wouldnt bother me although im sure all sections will be interchangeable to use (if there is any difference) a 106 rear section with a saxo front section or vice versa.

Ill make sure to ask all these questions to clarify
  31. #31
Yeh no worries, I think I'm with you on that one, I'd prefer to mount to the arch/floor join but I really don't know which is stronger?

I'm happy to cut my dash - that's no problem at all !
  32. #32
Would have thought that the section on the boot floor would be most beneficial for strength as its directly on the chassis section where the rear beam bolts to

Again this is a pic from Lewisimos cage when Hank had it fitted

  33. #33
^ ^ I like that location to bolt to - fingers crossed they do the saxo cage that bolts there.

Although tbh, with the 106/saxo shells being pretty much identical, having a 106 cage with the extra diagonal and having to trim the dash would suit me fine if they are cheaper etc.
  34. #34
Im very much of the same opinion. Can't wait to get going with this and have prices confirmed
  35. #35
I really want one but I dont want to put my name down in case i have to drop out, i dont want to let you guys down.

i have added another question though!

    3. Can the cage be powdercoated any colour we want or is there going to be extra costs?
  36. #36
I'm 99% sure they only come in matt black - would be pretty easy to get it blasted and then powdercoated yourself - worth an ask though
  37. #37
oh in that case, black would be fine. black/blue exterior and white/black interior
  38. #38
    Yerh they're black only.

They can be supplied un-finished but these are made to order.
  39. #39
im interested, as chris said dont add me to the list until a price has been added
  40. #40
Just woke up from after my night shift, got a txt from the chappy to let me know that hes got all the info and details and he's compiling an email for me which ill be in my inbox this afternoon.
  41. #41
Non of the SD cages bolt to the beam. All of the to the arches or floor(neither have any benefits over each other as neither are to structual parts.)

I will warn that i have seen saxos cages in a saxo and 106 cages in 106's and they do have to trim the dash. Bearing in mind the further down the a pillar it goes the more protection it will give so cutting your dash isnt a massive loss for protection?
  42. #42
I'm 100% in swapping my rallye for another 1 without a sd cage so I'll be after another. I'll be looking for a 106 cage with as many extra parts they do (double door bars, extra diagonal etc!)

  46. #46
Do you want to start up a list of what people want?

If the 106 bolts to the floor then:

    1. Willsy
    2. raunchz (106 12 Point, Front and Rear cage with cross diagonal etc. + single door bars - £566.37 + delivery)
    3. Mr_P
    4.VTSTomE

I'd almost prefer to cut the dash tbh (by having a 106 cage in a saxo), as means, like Aron says, it follows down the A pillar for longer which can only be a good thing! Plus makes it easier to get into if the front section of the cage is nearer the bulkhead !

Willsy, any chance of seeing where he is based? As could pick them up to save another £55 ?

The decision is made for me too definately the 106 dash.

Had a look where they are based its right up North: Brotton, Saltburn, TS12 2QX (177 miles from me so postage preferred this time round i think )

Boys and girls this just gets better and better!!!!

Reply to other questions is as follows:

    "Hi Matthew

As far as i am aware the Peugeot 106 rear bolts to the Floor and the Saxo rear bolts to the rear arches.

I will see if i can get a Picture or a Schematic Diagram from safety devices for you to confirm this.

Traditionally they all come in Powder coated Black.

Other colours are available at extra cost of £50 per cage, if they were all different , however if say you ALL wanted them white or pink etc then we may be able to get them painted at a cheaper price".

I suppose fitting is only stripping the interior out, welding 6 plates in, spraying the plates and bolting the cage in.

Willsy, do the cages come with a 'fitting kit' ? I presume it comes with the plates you need to weld onto the chassis, and nuts and bolts etc ?

Yes, however im pretty certain that you can find fitting locally much much cheaper than that so havn't paid any consideration to enquiring about an additional discount for multiple fitting price.

Its only really the welding in of the box sections thats labour orientated. Bolting it in yourself wouldnt be an intensive task

Have just emailed him again to double check.

He's emailed Safety devices to get some diagrams sent over to us, likely to receive those on Monday as SD are closed for the weekend now

Im very much of the opinion that thatll do nicely

Right very interested in this cage guys... however... very busy with money over the next few months... 556 in two payments? One in august? september? Are we talking the end of each month? As thats when i get paid and that would be most best for me to be honest...

Well done for getting this going though

    Jason

    Jason,

I will enquire with regards to dates. It will certainly be 2 seperate payments. 1 initial one for 50% and then the final one 4-6 weeks later.

Of course theyve initially put that the group buy price is valid for 30 days but if theres significant interest im sure theyre not going to mind holding that for a little while longer to incorportate the first payment being end of August (it is only a couple of weeks extension afterall).

They may want a final list of names within the 30 days at least

Ill find out which method of payment suits them best too, id imagine id give them a list of names of who to expect a call from then you'd need to call to pay the first 50% and give all your requirements and postal addresses etc. Then when they arrive theyll either contact individually or maybe contact me as the organiser to let you know and then call to pay the final funds asap.

I will confirm all this with them though dont worry

They have been very helpful so far and very quick to respond to any questions etc. The guys on RallyeRegister had very positive dealings with them too
  71. #71
Ideally first payment at end of August would be ideal for me but can do sooner if people are eager to get it going!

Thats awesome we've got 5 people down already.

Will be great if 10 are interested between Saxp, Rallyereg and 106oc should get us some further discount on what is already an awesome price
  77. #77
love the prices, still need to number crunch though, will add my name hopefully
  78. #78
Think all the questions have been answered, but think I can help with some:

Saxo rear legs bolt onto arches. 106 onto the floor, butting up against the bottom of the arch.

Saxo mounts are taller and the legs bolt on level with the top of the inner door sills. 106 legs bolt onto flat(ish) plates on the floor is shown on the pics of Lewis' cage on preceeding pages where you can see the plates welded in and painted.

106 cage in a saxo (with saxo dash) means the dash needs to be trimmed slightly. The area under the side vents needs to be slotted and the front legs then sit in this space.

Crossed door bars look cool, but can be a pig to get in/out of the car with. Think carefully if you are having this in a daily drive

Heres mine for reference (ignore the 2 rear bars across the rear screen as they are not part of the cage). Its the saxo version:

Thanks for that Andy, the cross door bars do look tempting but not sure I could actually get in the cobra seat with the head protectors!!

Mine fit fine with the head protection. And i don't think the cross door bars would effect anything compared to a single bar.
Although my circuit plus is touching the bar. haha. Like it was made to be

I'll post some pics of the 106 cage in my current car if people want more?
It's the 6 point 106 cage with harness bars etc.
  83. #83
    the more pics the better

would you lot who have the cage reccomend it to others, for the way it fits etc

obviously access will be reduced with bars but we should all expect that
  84. #84
    Mine fitted easy enough
Cant complain about the build quality

all very positive. Thanks for those who are able to assist with the Q's and A's too, always a great help

The single door bar is lower than the crossed one, so easier to step out over it. The upper front bar on the crossed version is quite high so you have to pull yourself up out of the car which is a bit undignified lol. Its not a major issue tbh. But I am considering removing that bar on mine or modifying it to sit a bit lower down to make entry/exit a bit easier.
  91. #91
I'm 90% certain I will also have one of these. I won't put my name down just yet as I'm still waiting to buy my R888's from the group buy. When would you be looking to pay the 50% deposit? Ideally I would like it sometime in September but if not i'll just have to dip into the ol' savings .

£556+delivery (£620 delivered) is for everything to fit by the sounds of it. That price is for a 106 12point one with rear x and harness bars and single doorbars.

Would be extra money for a White one.

    Ah my bad sorry!!!
Cant really see a problem in using seats with head protectors and the crossed bars, as loads of rally/race cars use them so you must be able to fit in/out of the car with them!

The price is for the cage, which has a horizontal bar between the bottom of the rear legs in the boot.

The strut brace that bolts to the rear seatbelt point is a custom job that Andy has made from memory.

No it's not included - I think it's been custom made by Andy_k on here - you can't buy them.

You have to remember though, that the Saxo doesn't have rear struts, so there's nothing really to brace.

but then again i dont know what they offer to have it in white in the 1st place

Willsy - maybe worth getting a price for 10? It looks like everyone is going for the same cage too, so maybe some economy of scale there too.

it £50 to have another colour than matt black but the more the cheaper

I have just edited the first post on page 1 to include all the details so far, ive made it a bit simpler too in the layout to avoid confusion

The quote they have given is guaranteed for 30 days, however i will ask them to extend that to 45 days so that first payment of 50% of your parts total will need to be paid by the end of August.

The final 50% will need to be paid 4-6 weeks later (thats how long it takes for the cages to be made and ready to send out) so aim to have the final 50% ready for the end of September.

  127. #127
    yeah just a *few*

    pm sent
  128. #128
    Morning all,

Have just sent them a further email to confirm if there is any further discount for exceeding 10 confirmed orders

Also ive asked with the price guaranteed for 30 days whether they are prepared to extend that if we ensure that all 50% deposits are paid before the end of August to give those that need it the extra end of August payday to help out with funds etc.

If anyone is able to pay sooner just so theyre happy that the ball is rolling then thatll be great.

Ive also asked what they prefer to do with regards to ordering details, whether theyd like a full email of names, postal addresses and cage requirements etc with each person then being responsible for calling to pay their 50% deposit or whether theyd just prefer me to give them a list of names with the rest of the details and requests being given by phone upon the first payment.

Please let me know if there are any further questions as they are more than willing to answer any

Sounds good to me mate. As I say the end of August would be better for me as I've got insurance to pay in the middle of the month . Good news is a cage is only £22 more to insure .
  131. #131
    Update:

Here we go everything is now fully confirmed
    .

Thanks for the PM Willsy. That's great, I will most likely pay on the 29th or the 30th August . Cheers for taking your time to organise it. We'll all have the best bolt in cage for saxo/106 by a long way .

Will do, if you PM me your number i can always txt you. Think its Tufty whos asked me to keep him informed by txt just incase he misses anything lol

Will have to make note of everyones real names at some point too.

The 106 style cage seems to be much more popular then than the saxo one
  142. #142
Will PM the number now, I much prefer the 106 cage as mentioned before with the rear mounting points being on the floor rather than the arch and again the front following the A-Pillar for that little longer.

Very true, think those 2 points have been the deciding factor for most of us

    Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, thanks Matt !

I'm good to pay right at the end of August - I'm back in the UK on the 28th August so will pay on the 30th/31st

I won't be on the phone/Internet for 15th-28th August so will check this thread before I go and be ready to pay as soon as I get back !!!

Looking forward to getting the cage, they are by far the best bolt in/off the shelf cages for the Saxo

Thanks again for sorting it Matt !!

So the 106 cage is the better one but the dash needs a slight trim - correct?

Still can't commit as Im still not guarenteed work for the next two months (downside of being self-employed) but will *hopefully* jump in at the last minute.

    Correct,

106 one requires a slight dash trim on a Saxo but it is a preferred mounting point for the front leg as it follows the A pillar further down. Also the rear section bolts onto the boot floor near the beam mount which is a more structurally strong area than the rear arch like the saxo one does.

To be fair there is no difference atall in the chassis, can understand the front leg difference due to the dash clearance, but the rear of the car is identical so its strange why they have varied it.

Everyones opting for the 106 one to go into their Saxo so far though it seems

Still plenty of time to jump in. Ill be sending the final list on Monday 23rd August, with the first 50% to be paid anytime between then and before/on Tuesday 31st August.

Hope you have a good spree of good work before then Chris

Im intending on fitting a 106 dash anyway its much easier to lighten than a Saxo one and im hoping to have my wiring all redone with the fuses set into the dash, the 106 one gives a perfect flat section on the bit where the pass airbag panel goes or the centre console being flat to do it

Do you guys mind if I take myself out of this - not that I'm saying I don't want one anymore, its more of a case of not disappointing you guys if I take myself out at a later date. 80% sure I will be having one but I would rather not be on the list as I'm not a definite 100% now due to deciding to go to Uni this year and actually do something with my life. If there was only 5 of us I wouldn't let you guys down and stay in but as there is 9 or so of us, 1 less won't really matter will it. Don't count me out of it though, i'll most likely be paying my 50% deposit on the 30 or 31st August if everything goes to plan, but just incase it doesn't I would rather not be on the list if you get my drift .

You might have to put me in touch with the locals

If I had to take a punt as to the room you'll need I'd say around 150mm max. From memory, the SD cage is a pretty tight fit to the B pillar as it locates to the chassis there too.

    http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/d...Picture162.jpg

i have a feeling its not going to fit, ill have a measure up tomorrow. thats the 'best' pic i have atm, rear cards and b pillar covers are out so a touch more space now.
  165. #165
there looks plenty of room drivers side, passenger side looks closer but I'm sure it'd fit

Both the seats mounted in the same place?
  166. #166
drivers side is fixed in place, but passenger's is movable (just about)
  167. #167
I think you should be fine once the plastics are removed.

I've not got a huge amount of space either but will make it fit !!
  168. #168
As above drivers looks fine but the passenger side may be a bit tight. My door bar touches my passenger seat, it is a fat man seat though
  169. #169

You dont have to buy or fit the door bars if you dont want to Chris. It does save you £80+ if you didnt want them
  176. #176
    plenty of room there !

Im rocking an XL width Cobra Evolution seat and I'm sure it'll be tight - but with great things comes compromise
  177. #177
Yeah, the super close one is the circuit plus. So it should be ok chris. Take a chance, and as willsy said you don't have to use them if worst comes to worst
  178. #178
I 100% know that I'll need to re-jig the positioning of my seat. In the grand scheme of fitting the cage that's fine.

I'd rather the protection of the door bars and re-jig my seat than just the saxo door as protection
  179. #179

It's like on an al capone film i have seen. A guy gets attacked by a bear and tries to protect himself with a painting off the wall. It will end in a similar fashion
  180. #180
looooool can only end badly !!

I would go for the cross door bars but I think they'd make it a pig to get into the car, and would put me off taking the car for short blasts.

Single door bars with the A and B pillar uprights should be man enough.

adamskiTNR - you welded plates onto your floor for your cage? Then bolted through them and the floor with a nut and bolt and washers? Or is there some sort of captive nuts beneath the plates that you bolt into?
  181. #181
Nah. I was gonna bolt it in. But that was at the stage when i was gonna keep the radio. The i woke up one morning and thought fuck it. So i welded it all in proper. It ain't going nowhere!
And the one unique thing of my cage i like is that i bolts ONTO the rear beam
  182. #182
Ah so the main A and B uprights are bolted to the floor? and then the rear section is bolted to the rear beam mounts?

Sounds a nice setup - does it bolt onto the A and B pillars at anypoint?
  183. #183
Well yeah it's all supposed to be bolted. But i just welded it all in as the sparco tig welds are seamless and amazing so should be stronger than a diy weld in.
Yes A and B to the floor. Well not directly to the floor on plate steps. And rear to the beam. There are some pics of the beam mounts before the cage was welded over them somewhere early in my thread.
And it is bolted to the b pillars. I was gonna gusset it to the a pillar but that involves removing the windscreen, so really couldn't be fucked
  184. #184
As i said in my thread i nearly made a fatal mistake. Because it is welded over the mounts. The bolt for the rear beam is in there so it would have just spun around when i need to undo them to get the beam off!! Luckily i thought about it just in time and spot welded it to the mount to make it captive
  185. #185
ah sweet - I'll have a gander at your prog thread now.

Gussetting it to the A pillar would tempt me tbh. especially if the windscreen is out to fit a roofskin

I'm having thoughts of modifying my existing cage in the rallye (sparco 8 point) so may be out as of yet just see what prices I can get for welding harness bars and a rear strut at the bottom of the rear cross. But if I get a buyer soon for it as it's up for sale I'm definitely still in!
  190. #190
Is it the same sparco one as mine? or is it the type 4? One rear cross i think
  191. #191
Like yours adam with the extra bracing between rear cross and main b pillar hoop that's what's swaying me towards modyfying this one against the safety devices although the sd is 12 point. Catch 22 or what!?

Suppose it depends on the cost of adding in bars to make it like the SD cage and having the bars exactly where you want them vs. selling the sparco cage and buying an SD one.
  193. #193
And then 8 point vs. 12 point lol!
  194. #194
The extra points are just tabs of metal with a hole in them for the a pillar and top windscreen bar. Nothing too hard to make up.
And if it is the same model as mine with the beam mounts then i think it has something others are missing.
Not trying to take people from the buy or anything
  195. #195
Do you reckon sd would charge me for asking for gloss black cage instead of matt black??

AdamskiTNR - roughly how much was your cage?

What do you think the sd cage is missing? The mounting to the rear beam?

£620 delivered for a 12 point FIA cage, with fitting kit, that fits spot on is a great price.
  198. #198
My cage was £618 undelivered with fitting kit. So probably about £635 delivered.

Sparco - thicker bars, beam mount

Safety devices - Pre painted, easier fitting
  199. #199
But it doesn't have a bottom bar between the B pillars or harness bars?

What thickness is the tubing on the Sparco? Or you mean larger dia. tubes? Are the two main types 38 and 45mm tubes?

I don't know what omp have to offer as far as full cages - I've got to head out but will see what they offer tomorrow evening after Silverstone
  200. #200
Oh yeah, i forgot i added those. That's another tick for the SD.
The diameter tubing on the sparco is 40mm and 50mm tubing.
I'm not a big fan of OMP's range tbh. It focus' too much on weight and not on protection. Like a house of straws.

    Sparco or SD for me.
Well custom cages ideally. They make some mean cages, (dam expensive though)
  201. #201
I'm getting pretty excited now, although I have my doubts about my seat keeping it's current position as it epically close to the B-Pillar.

I'll take a pic later to seek reassurance

In all honesty I've not really looked at the Sparco cages so not sure what they have to offer - have you welded the B pillar feet straight onto the floor? How will you get to the rear beam mounts when you need to undo the bolts?

I was thinking about whether bolting to the rear beam is really of any benefit? It's a lot sturdier place to bolt to than the rear arch join though ! I was just thinking about where the potential movement in the rear beam would be - and whether bolting the cage there minimises this?

The SD cage is pretty much the best fitting cage off the shelf and does sit very tight to the B pillar - so other than going for a custom cage, the SD will have the best chance of fitting !

    looool you'll be fine !!!

Is easier to weld the seat in to fit the cage, than buy a cage so that it fits around your seat

Ok iv just been paids whats this one called and how much am I looking at. I dont really fancy trimming my dash but I want one I can attach harnesses to the cage. Is it bolt in or weldinf required?

  220. #220
That one is the Saxo 12 point cage as it attaches on the rear arches.

The 106 12 point attaches on the join between the floor and arch and follows the A pillar a bit further and requires a litte trimming of the Saxo dash.

They are the only differences I know of
  221. #221
It is bolted in, but you should weld in plates to the mounting points to strengthen them for the cage.

The groupbuy cages come with the plates and bolts to fit the cage
  222. #222
how much for the saxo 12 point then?
  223. #223
prices are in the first post.

there isnt a 'fixed' price as it depends if you want door bars which are added cost

and ross/willsy, do i NEED a dash? as in mot purposes...? id be happy to make up a custom dial surround to make sure they are secure, also for switches etc. airbags arent even connected so the left side is effectivly useless lol
  224. #224
I wouldn't image you'd need a dash. I think you do need some dials/lights for mot to indicate things.

i can work my way around that
  226. #226
Yeh definitely - easy to sort things to pull it through an mot.
  227. #227
mot then fit the cage is the solution
  228. #228
yeah but thats feb '11 lol
  229. #229
    Lol, mot is no worries!
  230. #230
Pretty certain you do not need a dash for MOT. As there is nothing structural about it so as long as all instruments and necessary fittings etc are all made secure then you'll have no issues

Any chance they could include a citroen AX rear roll cage in the group buy?

The 20% off applies for anything over 5 cages ordered. Its a set discount no matter how many more are ordered.

Much better for us really without say having 5% for 5, 10% for 10 etc etc. Means we get an absolutely brilliant price straight away without relying on loads of people to join the group buy

If you want 5 cages for yourself though id have though theyd still save you some extra money on postage wherever they can
  236. #236
the cages are a bargain at 20% off - can't wait to get mine fitted !

thinking of buying 5 to sell on at a later date ?
  237. #237
im out, car's going back standard then sell in feb

    why did ross drop out?

would they be able to do custom one off cages or would i have to go to somebody like geronimo?

    edit, for another cat btw
  257. #257
Ross has sold alot of his new stuff in anticipation that his car might be sold for parts for an investment offer which has come his way. I think hes still pondering on it

Not sure if safety devices do 1 off custom cages. Most likely do but for what price i have no idea

Yes mate, prices on the front page are still the same

I need to email the full names of people wanting cages to them on Monday. The first 50% must then be paid before 31st August.

So if everyone who hasnt already can PM me your first/last names and ill find out which is the best number for you all to call and make your payments.

    Willsy
  263. #263
Just to confirm too it doesnt matter which cages people order too as its literally just a confirmed 5 cages to be bought to get the group buy price so it doesnt matter if theyre the 6 point or 12 point and a mixture of saxo/106 ones
  264. #264
Cheers mate. I will drop you a PM tonight if I'm in.

Payment will be by card (debit or credit etc) over the phone. Not sure if they accept cheque (not many places do now) I expect cash will be accepted (receipt provided) if you live close enough to pop it in. Certainly nowhere accepts bank transfer.

Let me know if you're in Mike more the merrier.

Hey mate, are you definately in on this if they can still do an AX cage too? Would have thought price range will still be virtually the same as the 106/saxo ones due to only very slight alteration in design needed.

Im happy to confirm this for you if you're definately 100% interested if an AX cage is available

Im defo interested in buying a cage as I have never seen a 2nd hand AX cage crop up.

When I have been looking at cages before (OMP and Sparco) they have just been 6 point roll cages, I see there are options with this buy. Do you have to buy a front and rear cage? If not would a rear cage provide sufficient saftey in the event of the crash?

Can anyone offer some advice on the different options?

Deposit is 50% of whatever the cost of the cage is that you require.

Final list of people wishing to order is required by monday, first 50% of the cage value is to be paid before 31st august. Then remainder of the payment to be paid when cages are made and ready to despach (4-6 weeks so ideally have final payment ready by end of september incase its bang on 4 weeks

It might be worth checking measurements between the AX floor pan/chassis areas compared to the Saxo/106 ones as im pretty certain theyre very very similar. May be able to get away with using a Saxo/106 cage to go in it.

Paul's been off sick the last couple of days.

If people pop down what theyve ordered i could call on the 31st and double check everything with them?

Ive asked for the full 106 12 point cage with all the extras too. Did have a lengthy conversation about the Saxo too so will double check too for my own piece of mind that Saxo cage hasnt been put down instead of the 106 one due to me waffling about it

Any news on this, apparently some 106/saxo cages do fit but it can be tight around the roof, ive even heard of Nova ones fitting. Though I dont want to chance it as a cage isnt a cheap item to find it doesn't fit and I can always buy a Sparco cage for £430.

Anyway did the find any lol

Same here, mine's just gone out today.

Assuming they were waiting for the 31st to give everyone the chance to call and then taken them all at the same time

So am i right in thinking everyone has ordered the full 12 point 106 cage with all the extras? Everyone has asked for the usual black except Drew who's ordered white?
  324. #324
Yerp i'm full 106 cup cage in black..
  325. #325
Yerh, I'm 12 point 106 with all the extras plus single door bars in black.

I think we all went for the same style of cage from what he was saying. Just the odd one in white

Told me he'd order them at the end of the week. So may be worth giving him a bell tomorrow and confirming everything Matt?

Money not showing out of my balance at the moment, but has been taken. (showing under the amount I have available) Unless some other cunt has withdrawn over £300 from my account.....

Yeah theyll let us know when the cages arrive, and of course wont take final payment until theyve received our individual authorisation, as if they do arrive on schedule on 28th there will be some who may not get paid until last day of the month to have sufficient funds available.

  371. #371
mine came 2days ago spot on willsy. Totally fine.

like people said, packed up well took like 30mins to unwrap lol.
  372. #372
Any one who got the full 106 one have some fitted pictures, want to see how much of the dash needs cutting to fit.
  373. #373
I would put pictures up but my iphone doesnt seem to like transferring them. In my 106, the front legs actually touch the dash, and the main hoop wedges itself against the roof lining

Just took the cage back out again today to have the plates welded in on wednesday, I'll try and get some pics up then!
  374. #374
rip the roof liner out! you actually gain a shit load of headroom so that must also help if anybody has a helmet for track?
  375. #375
It would be coming out if it wasn't for road rally reg's
  376. #376
fair enough! i started to draw on the inside of mine with a permanant marker one lunch time
  377. #377
Looking forward to seeing some fitted pics, still gutted mine wont be fitted
  378. #378
    Gutted for you aswel Willsy!!

I've had the footplates and strut top reinforcing plates welded in this morning, followed by an afternoon of spraying and reconnecting fuel lines.

Had a few little fires whilst welding, some right next to the fuel tank, but all was under control....honest

Next job is to cut the carpet around the plates, then fit the cage properly! Follwed closely by fitting my 24mm MC, hyd.handbrake, bias valve and full braied line set!

And if you're lucky, I may actually make a decent attempt to get these photos off my iphone.
  379. #379
Mine's not being fitted until the end of November when I'm taking the car off the road it's not nice just having it sitting there ..
  380. #380
Bump, anybody have their cage fitted yet?
  381. #381
Just wondering if anyone who took part in the group buy can post up some pics of the 106 10 point cage?

Did everyone get theirs fitted or did some sell on?

Im looking to get one again (typical) but would someone be willing to help out with some measurements to see if i can get one of the 106 ones to fit into my AX?

Hopefully someones willing to do so?

Alternatively if anyones selling theirs on too please let me know
  382. #382
I've got the 12 point that I've got pictures of if that helps?

I'm sure I could give you a hand with dimensions where I can, seeing as though you put the effort in to get me an awesome cage at an awesome price!

I'll have a look back here now and again but not on here very often, I'm a 106 man and not a massive fan of these saxo things people drive

Thatll be great if you can assist cheers mate

    Any pics would be great.

It would be the 106 cage that id want to get rather than the Saxo one too

Measurements that would be handy i think off hand is distance between floor pan where main hoop bolts to to the very top of the hoop (and how much space between top of hoop and the roof there is.

Width of boot floor of the 106.

Diatance in height between back of the floor pan and the boot floor

Any helpful measurements with the front legs would be great too.

Fingers crossed that itll be suitable to use.
  384. #384
Oops, completely forgot about this, sorry! I'm out of the country til the start of Sept ish.. If you still need some pics/dimensions then, give us a shout!
