Got my mot again tomorrow, they keep telling me they cant test the emissions as my car is idling to high, what is the requirement for them to be able to test emissions. It is now at about 1200?
Attempting mot again

#2normal idle is about 700-900rpm, but 1200 is quite alot, you may want to check your idle control valve.
-
#3Tried cleaning it, made no difference, put on new one, still no difference. Same with throttle body and inlet manifold. No air leaks. It seems to idle lower when its cold then as it warms up gets higher?
-
#4they check for co n co2 emissions, it shouldnt matter what its ideling at as long as emmissions is below set amount, as well as fast idle at 2k, if emmissions are good it should be ok.
-
#5You sure they are not testing it when the engine is cold? Cold start revs are about 1200rpm and when the engine warms up it goes to about 800.
Ask them to test it at the earliest point when you drop it off so the engine will still be warm, unless there actually is a problem with the ICV etc. -
#6Its failing the "natural idle test" And they insist that it must be idling at about 850rpm +/- 50rpm. They tested it first when the engine was still warm.

#7sounds silly but have you cheaked your throttle cable is not too tight may be able to adjust it if so
-
#8Adjust cable mate. Any decent mot garage should wait untill car i warm before its connected and tested. U thought about takin elseware. Get a free second opinion

#9Throttle cable is fine mate. And it is warm when they are testing it, it idles higher when it is warm. About 1150 at cold and about 1300 when warm.
