Help! My Saxo is possessed!

  1. #1
    Hi Everyone,

I wonder if you can help?

I have a Saxo X 1999 1.1i petrol and a few weeks ago it started to play up. I was casually driving when suddenly something seemed to change whenever I put my foot on the accelerator - the slightest movement on the paddle would result in my car being very jerky. (if thats makes sense?) When I slowed down to join the roundabout I looked like a learner driver who was struggling to find the biting point and my car seemed totally possessed - it was jerking all over the place and it didn't seem to register any revs. I was petrified to get back in and drive it. I managed to get to a friends house - called the AA and when the AA man arrived it looked like I was telling porkies because the problem seemed to have gone and it drove fine.

Ever since then it idles low and sometimes struggles to start without the help of some revs.

I had my MOT done two weeks ago and the guys said that they altered a sensor that controls the idle rate. It seemed to make no difference at all.

The 'jerking' problem drops in now everytime I drive the car and the weird thing is that when I turn the engine off and on again it seems to magically solve the problem in the short term...

My dad is a motor mechanic and so everything that can be serviced and changed has been done.

I would be grateful if anyone knows what might be wrong with the car and if anyone else has had this problem?

When was it last serviced? and check your throttle cable, it sticks somtimes.

It was last serviced in May - sorry to sound like a total girl but are they the same things as H T leads? If they are then they've been checked... if not then i'll have a look.

    Thanks

Yes! That's exactly what mine is doing - what work have you had done to diagnose the problem?

I think I am going to have to just fork out to have it properly looked at by a local fuel injection specialist - It's the only thing really that we haven't ruled out.

when that happens try turning car off and then turn it on.

I have the same problem(under the posting"jerky kangaroo engine"on this forum).Someone just left a reply saying it could be running lean and to check for air leaks..and also the brake servo... check my posting.let me know if you resolve it and I`ll do the same Good luck

    coil pack

    Coilpack +1

I have /some/ of your problems, I think my issue is the idle stepper motor, controls your idle, i've had it both high (car drives itself) and low (car wont start without accelerator depressed or revs drop to 500 and car is rough till I squeeze the throttle)

when it jerks does it lose any power etc like one of the electronic components goin down in the ecu cause it to lose power and re power it self kind of like the old coil days when they went down and got warm

Mine does this occasionally but not done when I've been driving. It will just rev up to like 2000RPM
