side strips/bump strips repainting - how to remove :/ (have searched, cant find)

    hi all,

    i want to know how to remove the side strips/side bumpers/side bumps whatever they are called!

    apparently i just peel them back from the back of the car, possibly breaking a few clips in which i can just purchase from halfords for a few spondoolies?

    i have a 2 tone saxo vtr, and they need to be BLACK BLACK! not just black, but black black, like black shiny unhealthy poo

    its ALOT easier to leave them on the car, and mask the area up as best you can..

    ive never heard of any one taking the bumpstrips off to paint them..

    but i could be proven wrong?

    Masking tape, and news paper, and your good to go

    but im a very messy person, never done it before, ad i know i would end up scratchin the TITS off the paintwork provin more work!

    id prefer to take them off pal they need a lot of sandin due to a few owners ago havin left alkot of what seems to be TREE SAP all over it which wont come off.

    also, on a side note, what would u reckon to colour coding the bumpers on a 2tone? IE making them grey like the bottom half of the car becasue during the night, the grey part isnt too prominent and people just think my car is silver, but its not! lol x

    Iv seen someone take the arches off I serpose there the same, they would be cliped on but be carful not to snap the clips, I think it would be worth taking the door cards off and see what you can see mate , but as said above just mask up it's easyer.

    yea think they are just clipped on nothing more part of my door strip is peeling out where its warped, and can see a clip, and rear is same so just give it a pull

    the bumpstrips on the bumpers dont come off iirc

    better leaving them on and take your time. Would be more hassles to put them back on than mask them off

    And if you snap some clips you will have to go through a load of shit like trying to get one off a car at a scarppy etc, I'd just leave them on mate

    the vt kit bits that are on the door on my 98 vtr mk1 have a screw as well as clips,when you open the door there is a black thing running between car and door which can be unclipped and behind that there was a screw on mine,you will break clips if you take them off so buy them first if your gonna do it mine had http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...T#ht_500wt_928 these along the bottom and http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...ht_2025wt_1137 these along the top plus i also broke one of the metal brackets that holds the plastic clips in which i had to tigerseal back in place so it is a pain to take them off
