this might sound a bit dumb but this my first car im doin up.
Cams, ive decided to go for piper, but lack of money means i can only buy the cam and valve springs, is this enough or do i need to buy the whole kit? and it also says they dont recommend it for use with standard injection. need to know cos my gf treatin me to some parts for my bday, which are; piper cam, valve springs, magnecor 8.5mm ignition leads, pipercross replacement filter element and an FSE boost valve.

best bet is to ring GMC motorsport - they get a good price on piper cams + have a lot of experience with 8v engines - you'll only need 1 cam bearing in mind you are an 8v

Ditch the boost valve mate, they are worthless.

Also I don't think you need the ignition leads either as I thought all the R's came with coil packs.

    early vtrs have leads

yea, leads on the earlier mk1. so boost valve not worth it then, read a few good reviews on them.

not really, just change the fpr (fuel pressure regulator) you can get an uprated one from GMC.

i had a boost valve on my escort, i messed around with it and the thing fooked the car.

i would just go down the FPR route bud ;D

Cam can see good gains depending what one you go for. Take time to pick the one that's right for you.

Most cams to go in a stock engine will not require uprated valve springs. Fitting harder valve springs to a engine that does not require them will loose you power.

The HTs will likely show no gain over a good set of standard set on a stock car in the real world. Well apart from your lighted wallet. But old tatty HTs are not good.

The replacement filter element again will likely show no gain over a good condition standard one. Though you can clean the peipecross ones so they can last a long time if well looked after.

As people have said FSE boost valve is not really a good option. If you have turned a car enough that it requires the fuelling adjusted you are best to get it mapped correctly.
