Strange noises from front

   Hello all,
   
   Recently i've been driving my car around and it's been a bit crap to get into 1st and 2nd although when i wiggle the gear stick side to side and then change gear it goes in fine, also there is a rattling noise when i accelerate the engine sounds a bit scrathcy too and idles like a bag of cack, any ideas folkes ?

   Just to add to this also, i'm getting a knocking noise from what seems to be the rear of the car when i go over bumps etc.

   The knocking noise is your engine mounts pulling your exhaust around and making the clunking, i stopped mine doing it by removing the rubber bungy in the middle and replacing it with a VW gti one its about half an inch bigger, gives bit more movement and retains it being held up.
