VTR 1.1 box !! CAMS ????

  1. #1
Got a 98bhp VTR got my breathing mods sorted manifold, exhaust and induction. Recently replaced my box coz it was shagged so dropped a 1.1 in it.

I like to overtake everything in sight so im heavy right footed.

Im now contenplating CAMs. Which are best suited for my car nothing to crazy but something worthwhile.

I've done searches on hear and SSC and just cant quite grasp weather the same cams will suit the box i've got.

A little advice wouldnt go a miss

box shouldnt make a difference to whether you have road or racing cams.

the 1.1box should be able to take the power if thats what you're on about.

a 1.1 and a VTR box share the same parts apart from the final drive (which allows the VTR to hit the higher speeds)
but the 1.1 lets you have better acceration

Ive heard that that standard saxo cams are pretty good and its not that worth while replacing them??

Please (as im sure you will!! ) correct me if im wrong!

I know nothing about cams to be honest timing or otherwise.

I would have thought that the aftermarket cams prolong the opening of and modify the timing of the valves to promote a higher and increased peak torque (thus hp) which is preferred for racing/tuning.

Downsides are likely to be naffer fuel consumpsion.

so its down to your own preference to be honest

did it make much diff to the acceleration with a 1.1 box on it ? cheers luke

Yes i was refering to strength but then all SHITreon boxes are the same build wise.

So what recommendations do people have for which one to go for ???

Piper, Kent, Catcam ??? or a regrind ???

Yes i have noticed a difference in acceleration, When you winde it out you get through the gears quicker and although you need to change into 3rd before you hit 60 its still qucker than a VTR box.

so if there was two same standard spec vtr's and one had a standard box and the other had a 1.1 or vts box, ur saying the one with the 1.1 or vts box would win to 60?

Yes thats what im saying. To stock VTRs of the same spec and weight. Im sure some would disagree but im 100% certain of it.

Back to the question of CAMs !!!
