Engine bay cleaning tricks?

  1. #1
Basically had an oil leak due to a dodgy seal so now have an oil stain down the side of the engine, leaks been fixed, but I'd like to clean it out. Any advice? Ive considered paying for a steam clean but i have my reservations about that much water getting into places in my engine bay.

Also looking for tips on just a shiner better looking bay, as its all worn, either rusty or peeling paint. Any advice or tips would be brilliant thanks

Old 2 or 3 " paint brush. Wrap tape around the metal bit that holds the bristles in. Use some engine cleaner like autoglym/gunk etc. Best results with cold engine, rise off with a hose. Don't direct water directly at electrical connections. They are splash proof but that's about it really.

An old sponge may be useful as well with a bucket of really soapy water.

Honestly.... for a cleanup of a small leak and giving the general bay a bit of a clean... baby wipes. Dirt cheap and no need for messing about and spending money on unnecessary cleaning products.

Sure you could use a bit of plastic trim 'back to black' type stuff on ecu cover and fuse box etc but other than that baby wipes are more than sufficient
