Fan not turning off?

    Fan comes on when sitting in traffic etc but I can turn the engine off and leave it for 30 mins and the fan is still going?

    Any ideas?

    is the red light in your temp gauge coming on ?

    temp sensor may not be working .....

    thermostat may b broken check the pipe that runs to the block and the other pipe at the bottom if the top one is cool and the bottom one is hot then apperntly thats your thermostat....

    could be a fault with your ecu.......

    get it into a garage and get them to check it over

    Temp sensor just changed.

    Temp light is not going on.

    Engine is pretty much cold lol

    Please correct me if I am wrong but afaik the MK1 uses a conventional fan switch screwed nto the side of the radiator (at lest my old one did). And the MK2 uses the ecu to control the fan. I have heard of ecu's spazzing out and not switching the fan off. If you check the wiring diagram you might find a relay that the ecu activates to switch fan on/off. Check this relay is not sticking - I would suspect the car has a relay as current draw is quite high for the ecu to turn on and off but don't know for sure.
