Buying a 2nd hand CAT...

  1. #1
    Hi guys,

Snapped up a second hand CAT off eBay last night for £22. It was local to me (no delivery cost etc) and I don't currently have one on my VTR so it's a must for the emmissions / MOT.

I'm at work so don't have a pic etc, but I believe it came from a VTS.

The old man has convinced me that we can 'make it fit', even if we have to cut and weld the piping either side, but I wondered if anyone had any experience with this??? (not the welding part, just whether or not the VTS / VTR cat's are interchangeable).

On another note (and as a complete n00b) I've got quite a bit of work to do on my '97 VTR over the next month (MOT 31st July - booo). At 28 I'm finally determined to get educated in the ways of the car and not rely on robbing car mechanics. That and I love my little VTR she lovingly carried my girlfriend and I on a round-trip from Kent to Southern France recently with not a single issue. Proof to me that she's worth spending a bit of money on.
So, imminently, my camera will be out and I'll be begging for advice on all things Saxo.

I bet you guys love that though right?

So yeah anyway, went a bit off track there..... - do we have a catalytic genius in the house??

yeah - I realise it may be naff.

Cheapest I could find new are all £100+ though so I figured £20's not a bad gamble. I could piss that away within the space of about 10 minutes down the boozer...

your car being a 97 car should have the cat under the car (roughly inline with the doors) and it should be a pipe about 3feet long, in between the downpipe from the manifold and the centre section with the silencer box. aslong as the one from the vts is NOT a cat which fits to the manifold it should fit yours.

do you no what year the vts is?

I can't remember what it said in the listing now, so no. I'll have a check tonight.

I've set Saturday aside to get the Saxo up and have a good look underneath. As well as having no CAT attached she's got a fair bit of corrosion so I need to have a good look and see what I can and can't do.

It wouldn't be a cat/manifold if it was from a vts as all vts have the cat under the car.
