i had this happen to me on motorway, it may be your driverside drive shaft, the inner bit of the shaft sits in a bracket and my inner cv joint was fuked. when i looked at my shaft it looked ok but inside was messed. let me know how u get on

Hi, i had something similar happen to me.. turned out i needed a new gear box and whole new drive shaft =\.. but i was struggling to get out of fifth gear and also into first gear!
  14. #14
As said driveshaft, change the oil seal while your there

i have the exact same problem with my saxo vtr 1997 i took my car garage today to get a new clutch thinking it is the release bearing, couple of hours later had a phone call saying that the input shaft is loose and input bearing is knackered so i need a new box dont know whether to believe it or not

Doesn't sound like a driveshaft intermediate bearing tbh, normally does it when you lift off the throttle but that sounded like a grinding/croaking.

    what could it be then?

u need to jack the car up and make some checks, jack car up spin wheel forward and backward see if you hear any noises first

Sounds a bit like a wheel bearing, could be the intermediate bearing.
Jack the car up on the side its coming from, grab the wheel in the 9-3 position and see if theres movement, try aswell at the 12-6 and the 10:30 - 4:30

I had the same, my Gearbox was chewing up the driveshafts and as a consequence was fucking up the wheel bearing, best to get the Driveshaft and wheel bearing replaced at the same time buddy. Hope this helps
