Homemade coili problems

    Right ive made my own coilover conversion set courtesy of Rally design,

    I know a few guy who have amde coils from them but ive been looking through some threads and ive noticed a few common problems just wondering whats the best way to prevent them,

    Bending top strut mounts
    stiffer springs strip soft alloy thread (yeah makes sense but im not sure the alloy is 'soft' otherwise it wouldnt be sold)
    OEM struts on lowered cars.

    Im putting 175 rate 2 1/4" springs on the coilovers put using OEM struts (not forever, only till i can afford some billys)

    Would it be worth strengthening the top strut mount?

    Personally I think there a really poor kit. I gave my ones away many years ago. The kit I had was only ever intended to be used with solid top mount. I cant see it working if you tried to use the standard ones. Probably peoples have failed. If its a sprint car or something like that and you require adjustment on the cheap then there ok. But I really would not recommend you fitting them if the car is going to cover any real miles. But that's just my opinion.

    even with a full b8 setup..they're crap?
    the cars gonna be a run around for about a year until i can get another car.

    i use them on my trackcar they are a bit harsh and they will need solid top mounts to work properly but for the money they do ok bot then i moved the position of my stering arm and arb mount down the strut

    After getting them I realised that there top mounts combined with there top spring pan everything sat way to high. You could lower the lower spring pans to bring the car back down but you ended up loosing a lot of suspension travel for a given ride hight. But more so the issue is with there longevity. The ball joint on the solid mounts start knocking very quickly. The alloy pans are also very soft and even oxidise quickly. The threaded tube even started rusting immediately. Though I think there stainless now? Just the solid mounting does not lend it self to a road car as there so harsh. Eventually something will likely brake. Most applications you don't need ride hight adjust so more often then not your best just to use lowering springs in my eyes. If you do require ride hight adjust I would be tempted to spend a little more. The Pugsport kit was very good but don't know if there still for sale?
