vtr engine oil stick / blowing out ?

Right i've just noticed that my oil stick has blown out ! i've checked in the oil filler cap , it's all clean in there , though i have a slight bit of oil around the top of the engine ( no major leaks ) the rocker cover gasket is quite perished though ! water is at correct level and oil once again level seems ok ! any ideas ?
    cheers all :0)

Hmmmm does this not indicate backpressure in the engine?

    Worn piston rings maybe?

    Could be wrong

can be a sign of crankcase compression. Either blocked breathers or worn piston rings and the compression is blowing into the block

was it pushed in to start with? yes i know its a stupid question but it can be done if it was my bad.
id check the breather pipes especially the oil return pipe first.
if it still carrys on compression test and go from there.

i think your right about the breather pipes i have noticed its manky around there ! engine is sitting at around 100 thou mark , its been well serviced over the years , so im hoping its going to be ok , as i've now purchased new water pump / cam belt kit etc to do a fresh service on it !!
    cheers all

get a freind to sit in the car and start the engine and slowly rev it not high but to about 3500 max and you listen for a whistling noise around the dipstick if the dipstick is just blowing out then pull it out abit not all the way out just so air can get past and cup your hands around it and feel for any air leeks.

if you can feel or hear any leaks then this is a sign that the piston rings have gone. Also you can unplug the breather pipe from the air box and put your hand over the end and make it air tight then feel if there is a pressure building up if so then you are going to need new piston rings

I would of thought flushing water through it can clean the breather pipe but dont know as ive never worked in a garage just done mechanics at college and helped freinds with their cars and stuff so dont exactly know I think people just un clip the breather pipe from the engine and then flush water through it. If it is going to have anyhting init then I would of thought it would only be oil because the breather is supposed to cool the oil by attatching the breather end to the airbox so it keeps the oil cool thats why people use breather filters for some engine bling lol but there supposed to be used for cooling the oil did you do the tests I suggested

Hello mate , i used carb cleaner in the end was a little dirty though nothing major , one end of the breather is very small , i might have to take it to my mate to blow some compressed air through it with abit of carb cleaner again to make sure its 100 % clean , im going to need to replace the rocker cover gasket this week as it's knackered and i noticed a small amount of oil around there too when i wiped it clean , im going try those tests on sunday as im putting an exhaust on and changing manifold gaskets , cheers
