New exhaust, feels slower...

  1. #1
    Hey guys

Fitted a new saxsport decat exhaust on saturday, but ever since its been fitted it feels like its actually slower than before, doesn't seem so quick accelerating as it did before.

    Any suggestions?

How bigs the tip might be something to do with pressure and all that malarky. Sometimes having not the right balance can loose you presure in exhaust. Something on the lines of that anyway. What size is the exhaust ?

It was the 3" oval road system I went for out of the 2 they do, It may just be me but it really doesn't seem to feel like it has the kick that it had with the factory standard system.

hmm, Maybe your right, Maybe its placebo.. Not sure mate. I have a 3 inch tailpipe, its a custom Zorst system on me VTR, i rekon i gained a pony or two. feels nice. Wouldnt say i lost any.

The manifold will make the bigger difference i believe.

the saxsport shouldnt make it slower. if you added a powerflow 4inch exhaust then maybe...

Yeah I think a manifold will be the next upgrade for performance, got a few smaller/cheaper things to work on first while I save some cash up for that, just out of interest how much does a decent manifold cost these days for a vts?

its prob just revving a bit more freely so you dont notcie when it picks up

If you also decatted i.e straight through system the power will be at the top of the revs and as there is less back pressure not as much at lower revs. Now go give it a blast round the back lanes and tell us if it feels quicker

Yeah I did Decat, so the power only really kicks in after 4k RPM??? I'll give it a blast tomorrow on the way to work, so try to keep the revs higher on gear changes to compensate the loss of power in the lower ranges?

    any luck?

see i raced a standered vtr mk2 100bhp version again mine mk2 vtr 100bhp with piper 4-1 manifold decat magnex full exhaust and pipercross induction. and he was just pulling away from me.

now i thought mine would of won but a miles.

Weird this, when I fit my Pugsport to my GTI on a standard Manifold it instantly felt much much quicker. Pulled very well, plenty of torque low down and no flat spots all the way to the red line.

Well I had an opportunity when I pulled out of work earlier to boot it, so I did. Seems the power has shifted up the rev range a bit, seems to really pick up at about 3.5k rpm now, so I'm happy again

Good stuff, you will now be using lots of petrol !

we're only drivin VTR/S's. what do you expect? Its hardly gonna have the power of a Golf.GTI, blah blah.
I'll also bet its your imagination. You'll not get any noticable difference.thats all horseshit.sorry but its true.I read a post yesterday,i think, and the guy thought he'd gained an extra horse(by fitting another exhaust!)-how the hell did he think that?what-because it sounded faster! And "back-pressure!"Jeez-its not a formula 1 car

    Actually it is a 16v I drive....

oops!even so mate.what difference is it gonna make really speed-wise?I think honestly its all blown up outta proportion about exhausts.probably 90% hype.what do you think?

To be honest now that I've found out that the power has shifted slightly higher up the revs, over all it does feel a bit quicker (probably due to being a de-cat and a lighter system over the standard). Definitely does seem to rev alot more freely then before

    mmm.interesting

the back pressure will make a difference too. if you drive with an exhaust with a hole in it, the car is going to be more sluggish. Same thing if you have an exhaust with a too bigger bore.

glad ur pleased with the purchase now mate
