Cant remember what saab it was, but i was chatting to a guy today who said he did a relatively simple engine conversion, it was a 2 litre turbo out of a saab of some kind, running 200ish bhp as standard. And it came standard with low comp pistons etc... any ideas what engine it could be?
Saab engine?

#2prob one of the aero engines ?
-
#3I seem to remember the word aero, lol. Has anyone on here ever done this kind of conversion before?
-
#4not that ive seen
can get 200bhp out of a turbo vts if you wanted. -
#5Yeah, but surely its cheaper to put in an already turbo'd engine than take an engine and fit a turbo to it?
-
#6depends how good at fabricating you are.
you'd have to think about driveshafts, gearchange, clutch, engine mounts, the electronics, cooling, and oil coolers, intercoolers etc -
#7Im awful lol. I would be getting the engine fitted by a mate of mine who can do them kinda things. What sort of price is it normally to turbo a vts engine?
-
#8search for prices for turbo'ing.
can vary from £500 all the way to £10k+ -
#9A lot of people have taken the turbo off a few of the Saab engines and fitted them to the Saxo engine. Though have never seen a full engine swap. I only know a few Saab engine but none of them would fit all that easily in to a Saxo.Quote:Cant remember what saab it was, but i was chatting to a guy today who said he did a relatively simple engine conversion, it was a 2 litre turbo out of a saab of some kind, running 200ish bhp as standard. #10same block as the vauxhall c20let, pointless conversion just spend the money on a vts turbo engine

I remember the word aero but I think thats cause im a fat f**k and I work in a supermarket -
#12if i was going to do an engine conversion into my 106 a saab 2.0/2.3 turbo would be in the top 3 engines id choose. they are cheap, strong, reliable and comapct.
-
#14My old man has a 95 Aero, and that 2.3 Turbo engine is superb, pulls like a train - 30-70 is absolutely mental.Quote:if i was going to do an engine conversion into my 106 a saab 2.0/2.3 turbo would be in the top 3 engines id choose. they are cheap, strong, reliable and comapct.
Could only imagine the 2.3 engine in a saxo !! -
#15i would think almost all standard turbo engines run low comp pistons, some use forged pistons, others do not.
the aero 2.3 hot (high output turbo) engines are the ones to go for, you can get silly power from them, as you can with most turbo engines, but these seem to be reliable.
to fit one, if it could fit??
you would need to fabricate new engine mounts and strengthen around those areas.
i would love to fit a 1.8 20v T VAG engine into a saxo
, best standard turbo engine going IMO, best bang for your buck with regards to uprating them as well
