Baker BM Engine Mounts

  1. #1
My top engine mounts are both cracked so I'm thinking of getting the Baker BM Grp N engine mounts and Grp A lower engine fork bush fitted.

I've hear people talk a lot about Vibra Technics mounts, but are the Baker BM ones any good? If it matters, I'm currently using the car on the road, but ultimately it's purpose is to be a track car.

you need an S2 kit, NOT and S1 kit

as far as I'm aware, Baker don't do an upper engine mount for the S2 type.

Hmm, is there a good alternative to the Baker mounts in the same kind of price range then?

    not really.

Peugeot sport or Vibra/Spoox are the only ones I know of

    OK, cheers for that.

Might just replace the top ones with standard and fit a powerflex lower mount for now and look at doing the whole kit in a few months time then.

    Sounds a good plan.

Could get baker upper and lower gearbox mounts, just fit the lower for now.

When you've got more cash buy a vibra upper engine mount and fit bothe engine and gearbox upper mounts (you don't want one stiffer than the other)

OK little update. In the end I bought the GrpN lower mount on it's own and the GrpA Fork Bush and decided to keep the top mounts standard for a bit.

I finally got them fitted today and what a difference it makes! Firstly, the car feels much tighter, much more responsive on pickup and feels really good when lifting off and down shifting too, from a performance point of view from me, especially as the parts were only £44.

Although, I probably wouldn't recommend doing it to a daily driver, all I can say is that it's like driving a vibrator! The cabin vibrates right the way through the rev range and generates a fair amount of extra noise in the process.

I am very pleased though, it's exactly the effect I wanted for the track

its mainly the fork bush creating the vibrations, if you remove that it wont be too bad
i have the vibratechnics/spoox fast road upper mounts and had the group a pugsport lower mount and it vibrated a stupid amount and id been in cars with the group a lowr and they didnt vibrate as much, i then removed the fork bush and its now a very tolerable drive tbh, i also tried the group a fork bush with the group n baker bm mount and itvibrated just as much as my group a currently does without the fork groupa fork bush, so its suprising how much of a diff it makes tbh
have you noticed your car kangeroos/jerks a little bit on light throttle?

just thought id give you a few options on what you could go for next if you plan on driving the car daily and a few track days here and there, or just a full on track car

    lol.

I am quite suprised how much of a difference you say it makes, didn't realise it would be that profound. I have seen people on here say that fitting stiffer upper mounts have reduced vibration. Might be worth keeping in mind. I cannot wait to get all mine bought and fitted.

The Powerflex one is perfect for a daily drive.

To tell you the truth, I wasn't expecting it to be as noticeable as it is. Can't say that I'm noticing it kangarooing on low throttle to be honest, although I haven't driven it extensively yet.

In all honesty, some of the vibration effect is probably being introduced because I also took the back seats out last night, so there's more sound in the cabin anyway.
