thermostat bolt snapped!

    whoops

managed to snap one of the bolts that connects the pipe from the rad to the thermostat housing, so half of its stuck inside. had a drill to it, nothing. car will drive but forms airlocks every other day

how hard is it to remove the housing and replace it? or is there a better way of getting the broken bolt out?

housing just bolts on so easy to remove.

Just drill the bolt out and then run a tap through it to clean it out

best to take it out and get it on a bench?

tryed drilling it out and got nowhere, just mullered up the end of the bolt. any idea on what drillbits would work?!

get a mechanic to do it.its ok saying get a tap & run it through, but how many of us have a tapping set lying about.cheaper to let a pro do it imo

well you could buy a tap set, for less than a mechanic would charge to do it I'd say + you'll have the set in the future when you need it.

If you take the thermostat housing off you may find you have a bit of bolt to hold and screw out.
If its snapped below the surface then use a quality easx out

Buy a thermostat housing off a scrappy

    I don't use these 'easi-outs' at all - don't trust them.

Thought I'd bought a quality set, and it snapped on me and was an utter ballache trying to drill it out along with the originally snapped bolt.

Rather just drill bolts out on their own.

This will cost you less than a mechanic and will be handy to have anyways

    This one is cheaper tho

Is the bolt loose inside? if it is get a flat head and tap a way untill its loose then keep trying to turn it anti clockwise untill it comes out.

If not best bet is to drill it out, ive used easy outs before and they really can snap so easy and are made from colbolt. If you do use an easy out go very very slow.

"eazy-outs" should be sued under the trade descriptions act
