Strange Tweeting Noise

    Not sure if anyone can help me identify this but its annoying and started last night.

    When driving about a strange tweeting noise has started but only happens when off the throttle and moving. Even the slightly touch of the accelerator pedal and the noise disappears.

    The noise also appears when the car is sitting, but only happens after coming off the throttle and running down through the revs. It doesn't happen when at idle.

    Anyone with any idea? The noise appears to be coming from the upper right side of the engine when facing it from the front of the car. I'm wondering if something has rattled loose as I just fitted an uprated lower engine/gearbox mount the other day.

    See the vid if its that sound then thats 1 of the probs if not then its probably a squeeking belt.

    Nope, it doesn't sound anything like that. It pretty much sounds like a bird cherping. I'll get a video of it later. It is definately not a belt, that is what I first thought but it is coming from the other side of the engine.

    have you had the bonnet open and revved the car from the engine bay to try and locate the sound, can't see what else would make that sort of sound and off throttle other than a squeeky alternator belt or cambelt.

    Yeah. It seems to come from the upper right area of the engine.

    just seems strange as if the car is stationary, it can't be from the rear of the car as nothing is moving, the only rotating/moving parts is from the flywheel/clutch into the engine

    and the only thing that could really make a sort of squeeking noise is a belt, tbh it could be an alternator belt or an alternator bearing could be a slightly different noise but similar,

    If it does it when touching accelerator on just reving ( stationary) then im not sure but i had a problem like this. Was a tweet at first, then got worse and it began to creak and squeak. Happened at very low speeds and almost stationary.. when engine was moving.

    Was exhaust flange. Ever since i took join apart ( downpipe - centre section of exhaust) Wire brushed it, Copper greased the hell out of it, and loosened the springs. Never returned since.

    It happened on acceleration due to the engine movement and then the exhaust moving with it, caused the tweet/creak.

    Whats the intermediate bearing? Just the wheel bearing?

    My car made this nosie a couple of months ago but it doesnt anymore so should I change it?

    its the bearing which supports the driveshaft, it comes and goes to start with and then will become constant, just depends how much it annoys you.

    Where is this bearing located?

    Well it has stopped for now. Hasn't done it in like 3k ish miles. But it was extremley annoying when it happened.

    its located on the drivers side driveshaft, you have to remove the shaft to change it. hence why i just changed the shaft.

    There is the video. It's bugging me now as to what it is. It also takes a while for the noise to start, even after the engine is a working temperature the noise is only very slight and take a little while to become as loud as it is in the video.

    my guess was going to be that the joint from the down pipe to the center pipe on the exhaust is touching the lower engine mount bolt. but you said it was in the engine bay so maybe not.

    Maybe the timing belt is hitting the cover.

    The cover is off the belt at this moment in time. The noise is definately coming from the other side of the engine to the belts though.

    wow that is odd,

    i wouldn;t say thats the manifold downpipe as thats quite a high churping, the manifold would be more Mettallic if you get what i mean,

    niiiccee bodies btw

    what i would do is stick your head right in the engine bay, and try and locate it thats the best thing i could advise,

    it could be something as simple as an air leak somewhere , have you checked your inlet mani gasket.

    Not yet, I am guessing it is related to the inlet somehow as when the butterfly is cracked opened slightly more then what it is set as the noise disappears. I tried to see if the cherp was coming from one of the trumpets but I don't think it is. It almost sucked my hand in the process though

    Yeah i am thinking more Throttle body setup or leak somewhere. ask someone on here who knows about throttle bodies as i'm not that clued up on them.

    does the noise go get quieter after you have taken your foot off the clutch?

    Clutch makes no difference mate. The only thing that has any direct effect on the noise is being on or off the throttle.
