Axle with drums fit mk 2 vtr?

  1. #1
A lad near me has a rear axle he's selling but its with drums not disks. My vtr obviously runs with disks but he rekons (im very unconvinced) that it would be better with drums?
Also is there anyway of converting the axle to fit my disks?

    Thanks in advance

NO WAY MATE-keep the disks.he WOULD reckon that you'd be better off,as he'll be quids' in & you'll have shitty brakes

I was about 1% sold on it haha but i thought id check incase there was something about drums i didnt know haha. Cheers. Do you know if you can take drums off and fit to disks?

never really heard of anyone swapping disks to drums/drums to disks on the same beam. people tend to throw on a whole new beam. Rears only do like 20% of braking anyway but i wouldnt ever put drums on the back though becuase its basically downgrading. you would need to change your handbrake cable too.

cant you just wait until a decent disk beam comes along?

As above wait until you can get an axle with disc brakes in good condition or reconditioned one. It isn't worth fitting an axle with drums to a vtr, components like handbrake cable will need changing and you will lose braking power and also handling.

The VTR/VTS/GTi run a heftier rear beam and rear arb and rear disc brakes than the non sports models fitted with drums because they are designed to go faster therefore need better suspension/brakes.
