Can Anyone Identify THIS!?

Right, got my BMC today and went to fit it, and this was in my way. Went to remove it, but it seems a bit heavy duty to be just a bracket. Does anyone know what it is, or what it's for?

I undid 4 of the bolts holding it on and they were massive..approx 4inch long, bottom ones had a seal. I took the cover off the top and it looks like a tray.

Any help appreciated, as i want to fit the BMC!

    I wanna fit it!

it's where my coilpack sits. maybe it's just a mounting bracket that they kept in place on the early mk1's.

yeah man thats the same, just with the cover off.. damn thing means the bmc sits too high and wont fit under the strut brace

yeah i thought it was just a mounting bracket for the airbox, but its got a monster mounting point and some serious bolts... just dont wanna remove it and find oil pissing everywhere, as the bolts must go 4inch into the block

Ive got the same as this

ive got a 6" K&N cone, 3" dia. at the bottom of it ive had to stretch the reducer pipe next to that plate to get the bonnet shut :/

doesnt seem to to anything, just a mouting plate

mines a late Mk1 silvertop by the way

dunno how to edit posts but yes is it where the coil pack goes... i had to pull my car in the drive so i checked

cant you remove it! i have always been under the impression it just unbolted!
  12. #12
dont remove it! it covers the end of your cam! if you took it out you would have a hole at the end of your cylinder head with oil pissing out

this was what i was worried about, good job i didnt take it all the way off! so i reccon i may have to change my strut brace to a raceland style one which goes along the top of the bay instead of extending down
Nothing's ever easy, i swear. I dont even think they bonnet will close with the bmc above that casing.

Anyone else confirm what jeffchiz said? although im pretty sure you're right....seems way to beefy to be a bracket

thanks for the responses. Oh and aedan, i might be able to extend the hose, will have to have a better look.

i have one and i asked my bf what it was for last weekend, but ive forgot now, ill ask and find out lol

cant you just get a longer bit of hosing from the throttle body so it sits slightly further away from the engine?
  17. #17
thats where the older type HT leads would normally sit, mate. i would've that SHOULD be removable, but obviously the holes would need to be resealed.maybe wrong though
