Door Check Strap Screws Cannot unscrew

  1. #1
My door check strap mechanism broke a while ago and finally got round to buying a new one. I've come to unscrewing the old one but cannot undo the screws as they are ridiculously tight managed to get one out about a millimetre but did not want to continue as the metal was starting to wear away on the actual screw. I've sprayed WD40 to try and help but am having problems

    ANY IDEAS OR HELP PLEASE!

Above is the link of the door check strap just encase no one has any idea what I'm on about

I had an issue with seized torx bolt on a brake disk once. It was a T30. I ended up just bending the attachment so I went and bought one that bolts directly onto a rachet, but it on an impact hammer a couple of light knocks and it cam loose. Worth a try..

you wont undo these with a torx screwdriver you will need it on a rachet and socket, wd40 it and even heat it up these are an absolute nightmare to remove chances are you wont get both of them out they either come out easy or wont budge

Wire brush then wd40 leave overnight then try.

Same Problem, Need to get mine off to weld the door mount behind it, Just rounding them off so just taking the wing off instead

check strap screws usually have threadlock on them, as deks says, gentle heat can melt the threadlock and make life easier, heat gun or even hair drier is enough

I had to run a tap down the threads on one of mine when I repaired the door check strap.

Once the tap had been down it a few times and I had cleaned it out with wd40 to remove swarf it was fine.

Also worth putting marking tape in the area you are working on to avoid scratchingthe paint too.
