was sifting through an old revs mag and stumbled across a performance tuning kit that would make a vts climb from 120 bhp to 170bhp with just a performance cylinder head and kent cams seems a bit too good to be true for £630
is this a load of rubbish?

#2i would of thought you would need good filter, full races exhaust including manifold and re map, plus what you have listed. but hey im not 100% sure...lol
-
#3ive got that setup.....
you also have to buy the head set and head bolts seperatly which costs best part of £100
and a 4 - 1 manifold £200 plus
get it all fitted and setup with the the ecu chipped and remapped £500 plus
so its not as easy as it sounds and you dont get that much extra bhp mine went from 135bhp to 165 bhp...
your better off going for throttle bodies at pretty much the same cost.... -
#4LAD conversion im guesssingQuote:Originally Posted by mike_vtswas sifting through an old revs mag and stumbled across a performance tuning kit that would make a vts climb from 120 bhp to 170bhp with just a performance cylinder head and kent cams seems a bit too good to be true for £630
you will be needing to spend a lot more money to get 170bhp -
#5i dunno the advert had powerzone motorsport on it already got the manifold etc just didnt know if it would be worth doin because id fit it myself would just have to get the ecu set up
-
#6with a pt52 or similar i dont see why not
-
#7whats a pt52?
-
#8its not the lad conversion.....
as i said mike your better of going for throttle bodies....wish i had....
-
#9yea but throttle bodies ive seen are a lot of money think they were 1800 quid
-
#10citunning said they would do it for £1300 all fitted and setup....
-
#11which is almost twice the price as the head still may just leave it for now it was just an idea as the headgasket s seaping oil thought why replace when you can upgrade
-
#12its a real 285 degree cam. as where piper 285 or pt51 are 262 there abouts.
-
#13anything less no chance
-
#14advert says kent cams but as for what spec they are no idea do you need to have new cam pullys or can you use the old ones?
-
#15your fine with the old ones. stardard are vernier.
as the for the cituning kit, i cant see that being great where a gmc kit is the same price without fitting, then theres you standolone on top which will be near a grand. -
#16so would the head and cams be the best way to get a bit more power from a price point of veiw seein as i would be doing a lot of the work myself other thing is how do i go about getting my ecu set up and would the engine still run on a standard map
-
#17yeah. even with throttle bodies you will still wanna do the cam and head anyway so its only the remap your gonna lose out on in the long run.
it will still run on standard ecu but will be running lean.
mapping wise, wayne at jamsport.
to save money just look out for second hand cams, pulleys are optional. then a uprated cambelt. -
#18powerzone did a setup similar to that for around the same price. if you had a filter, manifold, decat and exhaust along with the head and cams, vernier pulleys and a remap you would get 170bhp on a vts. a mate had that done to his years ago and it was a beast, spat flames out and everything
bear in mind it will cost more than just the head and cam set, you would be looking at the same price ontop of that for a remap etc.
then stick a set of throttle bodies on LOL -
#19what 650 quid for a re map
-
#20No way you'd see 170bhp from those mods.
-
#21my mate had a piggyback ecu thing fitted and a remap, cost alot, but that was a few years ago now.
dan:
me mates vts was pushing 170bhp saw the vid
he had a vts motor, manifold, de-cat, full system, filter, stage3 head (ported polished gas flowed uprated larger valves) set of uprated cams, vernier pulleys and a full re-map.
it ran a tad lumpy but was quick as fook! spat flames out all the time LMBO! © sax-p
he was going to fit throttle bodies but had an offer for the car that he couldnt refuse!
