Bleeding coolant system

  1. #1
Righty today fitted diesel rad and header tank, filled up coolant/water as per normal let it warm up so fan kicked in twice whilst topping the tank up obviously plenty of stuff spurted out but settled down, gauge never went above half after fan kicked in 2nd time I just let in run and all seems well no air bubbles coming from the header.

Just checking with you lot if that should be it? Didn't bother with the other points today as I was letting the system purge itself, will do the other point tomorrow if needed.

Sounds fine tbh - can open the bleed point/presume you've still got one in the thermostat housing?

But if temps good then jobs a good'un

aye got the one in thermo still, got the one in back to one on top of rad to ill give it another go tomorrow before the GP.

Should be more than enough - with the header tank it's probably already bled itself

If all pipes are hot, fan kicks in and the heaters blow hot air then the system has been bled

pretty much how it was so all sorted good stuff

small 3mm hole in the top of the thermo helps bleed too

or a missing bolt on hte housing

put your car on a slope, once facing upwards once backwards. Bleed both times, that should sort you out. It may take a few go's before all the bubbles are cleared.

lol, not as if the coolant is under any sort of pressure

indeed. It's a liquid. All liquids are subject to gravity.

Give it a good drive around when I bled my vts found a lock whilst doing about 30 mins driving heard a pop and bang! turned out my rad cap came of due to thermo locking up (dam things!)

Sounds pritty much as I did mine and its been fine

once system is clean and empty open all bleed points

Fit header and begin filling until coolent comes from the lowest bleed point. Close and continue you filling until the next one runs through and contine you until all points closed.

Then top up header and run engine as you did until fan kicks in and out a few time. Coolent will rise and fall in the header so keep an eye on it

ALSO robinsons bottle with hole in the lid FTW perfect fit lol

Only thing is whilst doing mine aload of coolent kept overflowing onto the alternator and it now sounds a bit dry hope I didnt fudge it, works fine though

Hose pipe on top hose, bottom pipe removed, turn on tap and flush cooling pipes.

il be doing this then, got a fair bit of gunk in my rad, never used to have the fan kick it but now it always gets hot after about 30 minutes of driving :/
