Ticking noise in time with revs, like tappets...

   As the title says, the noise does sound alot like tappets, and it is in time with the revs (Faster as it revs faster). However! I adjusted them not long ago, and it ONLY does it when its in gear and moving. I tried jacking it up and putting it in gear but cant hear it, its only when im moving.
   
   There is a little crack in the manifold (Shh) if that might be causing it...but i dont see how!

   had similar problem, but was only when was out of gear, it and got faster with revs, turned out to be a lose spark plug :/

   Sounds odd....didnt that cause a mis fire too?

   no because it was only "slightly" lose, so managed to run properly... was very weird, but new set of plugs cured it no probs

   I will have to take a look then, just to make sure. But like i say its only when in gear and when theres drag on the engine

   i have this when idling. Goes away when revving... Any ideas ? Sorry for thread hijack.. saves making a new one.

   but to answer the orginal question could it be driveshafts or somthing like that were bouts does the sound come from like?

   mines juts like a tap tap tap tap... Simlar to tappets, But goes away when i rev... So im not sure what it is.

   I dont thinkso. Its only when my foot is on the accellerator and when its in gear. If either of them arent done, ie revving it out of gear or coasting in gear, then theres no noise!
   
   So therefore i dont know where its coming from other than in front of me. Plus, i jacked up the front end and tried putting it in gear, but there wasnt a noise! Stress lol!
   
   Oh, carl, Is the noise coming from the black box on the left directly behind the rocker cover? Just to the left hand side.. (assuming yours is the Stage 3 engine/they are similar)

    i got the Mk2... Y reg 2001.. erm i dont know exactyl where from cause ive never really looked i just noticed it ticking when i started it up recently. Ive heard tappets get louder as you touch accelerator, But this goes away when revving and comes back when idling. Engines been well looked after so im not sure what it is, Should be nothing too serious..
    
    Ill check it out n report back.

    I have been told it could be the injectors, sound good? Do you think it would need new ones or just some red x putting through them?

    mines knocks while its running. had a listen with a stehoscope to the botton end and head and no knocking. the knock comes from the inlet area. my tappets have been adjusted and are quieter than before. the knock on my vtr sounds like someone tapping on a piece of wood, its a strange sound. it has been like this for ages on mine and im still non the wiser.....
    so if anyone can answer that id be happy as im fuddled with it now.
