Ticking noise from engine?

  1. #1
Basically just went out to get tea, and noticed (To use all of my technical lingo) a proper minging ticking noise, coming from possibly my engine or maybe the cambelt? It ticks more when i rev the engine so im thinking cambelt?

If so how much am i looking at to get it replaced? and i have to drive 30odd miles tomorrow to take my girlfriend home and get back to work tomoz so what kinda damage am i looking at if it snaps in transit?

Any information would be greatly appreciated

If it snaps it'll be bye bye Valves. And are you sure it's not Tappets or an injector?

Or a loose spark plug, or lack of oil.

I got this, my dad said tappets, but more likely injectors opening, mines not a minging ticking though

you know that sound of a drag lined up at santa pod, and you can hear the injectors ratting away

    kinda like that

    got oil in it?

In other words does it sound like an old fiesta? If so it sounds like the tappets though to me. Can get them adjusted. A decent garage will be able to do it, shouldn't really cost more than £50.

My VTR tapped like fuck towards the end of its life, then i flipped it over a tree rather than getting them adjusted

Its not tappets, tappets dont just come loose instantly and rattle about, it moves out of place over time. Pretty sure no one is foolish enough to not run their car with no/minimal engine oil....

i'd say lack of oil, put some oil in it and see what happens

perfectly common for the tappets to need adjusting on the TU engines, apart from the TU5J4.
No harm what so ever getting the clearance checked.

And you would be suprised at the number of motorists who have NEVER checked their oil.

So just checked the oil level and on the dipstick where the two indents are (Which i imagine are the min and max levels?) its 3/4 up that so i think its fine, Or might it need topping up?

No that's fine it should be in the middle. Too much and you'll cause damage.

Providing you checked it on a level ground.
