Replacing Hub on Driver's Front

  1. #1
    Hey all,

I recently purchased a set of VTR alloys and took them at the weekend to have new tires and have them fitted onto my Saxo Desire 1.1. Whilst the blokes were removing my old set of tyres from the car, they had problems removing one of the bolts and then managed to get it out. Turns out that someone (properly the lot I had do the tyre change a couple of months ago for its MOT) cross threaded one of the bolts and has totally ruined the hole in the hub, as they couldn't get the new bolt to go in.

Now I am stuck as I really have no clue as to what to do. I've been advised by one person to get a new hub from the scrap yard, but I am unsure on how I would go about replacing it, as I've read through the Haynes book but that gives me no help on this matter, or I'm not seeing the helpful part where it says 'Hub replacement'. Another person has said to tap it or something like that, but were saying it could be more hassle, especially if it's really bad.

Lucky enough I can drive round on it at the minute, as I was able to get the other three bolts on.

Any help I received, I would be grateful for as I have no idea what I should do. And I don't really like the idea of driving around and it not being proper and not looking right.

either get a secondhand hub ( you'll probably need a new wheel bearing too if its the front) or a secondhand strut with hub etc already attached (much quicker and easier)

I'll give the local scrap yards a call. Hopefully, they'll be nothing wrong with them. Having some bad luck at the minute. Got told by a local college I'm too old for mechanics (24 years old and I'm too old), my dog died and my nan died three days later. And then when they were putting the wheels on, I said to my partner, 'You watch, something will happen'. Hate being right.

Anyway, thanks for the help, will give them a call.
