well iv read a few things about saxos and there little rust problems but didnt relise there could be so bad, recently had mine in for its mot and its failed on 11 bits all on the main parts of the chassis and all with dangours next to them!!
will put on what it did fail on later

a am sick as a chip and me mate who moted it said it can be fixed but idealy isnt worth it!!

so if anyone has a 99 vts if aye was you id be getin under there and checkin it out because mine has a failed on some really bad things and upon removing the side skirts where the holes didnt look to bad in the sill got quite big after abit poke with a screw driver

Same problems here mate, i got a mark 1 Vts on a v plate.

its a rite mess lol, i got underneath it the other month looked at the brackets the bumper is bolted too an looks like its going to just fall apart, its also got the usual rust in the bay.. but the opposite side to the ecu there is a nice whole there like....

i've not been back under the car in the last 2/3 months i know problems are there i'm just putting it off haha

Pugs/saxos don't really rust visibly. Its under the ECU as mentioned and also the bottom of the arches in the boot are the main areas to look for.

True dat, I knew my one needed cleaning up when I bought it, but it just went on and on luckily my old man is pretty good with a welder and I had the time to strip and underseal the whole thing, so hopefully she will pass.

If not il just reshell it all into a 1.1

Think i'll give my own another check just incase. Just bought it recently but i haven't come across any rust problems atall. It's a 2001. That looks really bad mate. Reminds me of an old Escort XR3i i bought years ago. Looked minted from the outside. I wanted it as soon as i saw it. I didn't think to check the car properly, it was only my second car ever. Turned out the rot underneath it was terminal. You should have seen this thing. Looks like it's curtains for your car mate, unfortunately.

The only bit of visible rust i can see on my 01 plate is a patch on the drivers door seal. It's about 10cm x 5cm big...

I'm going to try salvage mine next month.

my 02 plate has been in my garage for 7 months striped down so ive done a full rust removal and engine conversion so im happy theres a few more years rust free in her ! But when i striped the inside out for the track and the sound proofing under the carpet was piss wet through!! And thats after it was in my garage for 6 months and the carpets never felt wet ! If i never l striped it out it would still be under there eating away with no sighn!

how did that get through an mot the previous year. surely would have had advisorys on corosion. bought my vtr last year saw 1 rust hole under it. the birds brothers a pro welder so got it.came to mot time the guy found loads, holes on both rear arches boot, 1 sill, both front arches under ecu and fuse box, had it all welded up but dont no how long its gonna last.
  28. #28
have no idea mate the cars got all its mot certificates full service history recipts for all kinds, reakon its had a dodgy test last year, was a shame to see it get completly stripped and scrapped but a just didnt see the point in paying a fortune to get it welded up and for next year for it to be just the same
  29. #29
yea think that was too far gone to be pissin about with. dont no how some older cars are still fine tho even tho their the same car and age.
