Alternator Removal

  1. #1
*Trying to remove the alternator in my mk1 1.1. For some reason the bolt wont that holds the alternator to the block wont clear the inner wing for removal.
i reckon the previous owner has had the engine raised and refitted the bolt the wrong way round.
Should the bolt go in right to left or am I missing something ?

*Waiting for my Haynes to turn up from Ebay

    Cheers

The 1.1 and Vts alternator setups are very different.

You shouldn't need to move the engine at all. I can't picture the exact 1.1 alternator mounts, but most of them swing out which allows you to remove the bolt

i did mine on the VTR, all i did was jack up the front end and get to it. had it off and back on again within 30 mins i was driving!

but now i get a weird squeeky rotating noise sometimes. i think the bearings in one of the pulley things is knackered

not sure how easy it is to change one of them.

The vtr alternator setup is different to a 1.1 so doesn't really help the op

well sure there is more room in a 1.1 engine bay to work and get the bolt out then a vts or vtr so should be easyer ?

Well the alternator pretty much sits in the same position relative to the inner chassis leg on all the petrol saxos.

It's the alternator brackets and bolts that differ between models.

I had the same issue on my vts. Cant for the life of me remember how we got it back in.

Finallt got it back in after cambelt / tensioner change. For some reason and Haynes doesn't mention this but i had to raise the engine slightly in order for the bolt to clear the inner wing. No big deal but wouldn't have known otherwise.

Speaking of Cambelt change, this was my first and thanks to the excellent tips on this forum I managed it in 50 mins with no issues. Think people fear this job but like anything if you do your homework its no bother.

    Cheers
