VTR price, a bit low?

Hi guys, this is my first post on this forum, so Hello!

I am looking at buying a Saxo VTR (my first), so I've been looking on the forum to see what to check for, got a nice list together. But my issue is that the car I'm looking at tonight seems to good to be true.

It's a CITROEN Saxo 1.6i VTR 2001 (51 reg) with just under 50k miles, FSH and 4 owners. Its going for just under £1800. Is it to good deal or would it be likely to have something wrong with it? Oh its a small dealership by the way.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to sax-p, that does sound like around the right price to me, allot of car garages charge over the odds hoping some young lad or lass will just pay whatever! Just make sure you give it a good check over no matter how long it takes. Check for play in the rear axle, oil leaks, play in the front wheels, rusting arches and under body, over spray or slightly different color panels (accident damage) rad cap for mayo ect, tyre tread depth, service history, ect ect. Try and get warranty if you can even if its only a few months. Hope this helps

To be fair thats probably about right price wise nowadays. Is it completely standard or has it got any modifications on?

Has it got a full MOT, and are they offering a warranty/guarantee on it atall?

    Welcome to the forum too

Cheers guys, looks like a fair few have been over priced near me then! I am going over the hill for this one (Pennines).

It's as standard as far as I can tell (no lexus lights ), I assume that its taxed and tested but I didn't ask last night. Totally forgot to be honest. I assumed that garages have some form of warrenty when selling cars. Something along the lines of if something goes that shouldnt do, they are liable. But its the cam belt after the service period and you haven't changed it them they're not liable for it. Not 100% though.

Ok been to see it, looked pretty mint. Drives fine, biting point is a long shorter than the first one I'd driven. One or two minor dents and it looks like it needs a waxing as well (they did say it was new in and hadn't had chance to sort it out). There is a bit of damp under the boot carpet, not sure what that means and there was rust on the springs etc, but i didnt know if it was bad. I did take some pictures, so I can upload to have a look at.

One thing though, it did have a spanner next to the mileage, what is that?

Comes with 12 month MOT and some tax, also 1 month warranty.

The wet boot carpert will be because there is a Rear Wheel arch trim missing
The spanner on the dash is telling you you're a spanner and need to service the car
Surface rust on the springs is pretty common,

    Upload the pics

Not the clearest picture but you can see the rust which I was un-sure of. Would this be a problem or would some acf50 sort it out for getting worse?

Nothing to worry about - looks like everyday surface rust which 99% of all cars have..although you might have to replace that spring if it snaps in the future, looks quite worn..
