Dash temperature sensor issues

  1. #1
RIght, took the car out a week ago, dash guage working fine, go to it at the weekend and nothing. Light is on before startup (the one by the guage in the dash) and goes out once running.

Tried to check the resistance across the sensor (blue one into the head) and it doesnt change with temperature, so no current is getting through basically, checked the green sensor snd that works perfectly, resistance goesdown with temp increase.

I have another blue sensor, and bench tested this and it was exactly the same didnt alter with temperature. So i was wondering if its not how the blue sensor works. Like some sensors only have one wire. Someone explain to simple me how that works?

if its not the sensor im guessing ive feked something somehow.

    Cheers

    Any ideas?

Go aftermarket in your case man. That the only bit of advice I can give the early after being up late lol

    lol cituning?!

lol, i'd look for some sort of stack/spa etc. gauge setup

    ok cheers chaps.

Auto meter all the way. Only have two slots left, one was for oil temp one for voltage as i have a sealed batt now...,

hmm would still like to know how the sensor works / sensors with just one wire work.

    which sensor is it?

the blue dash coolant temp sensor?

I can have a quick look on the wiring diagram/wiring diagnostic booklet - The oil temp sensor is only one wire from memory?

Ja dash coolant one. Blue sensor 2 pin, cheers dude

It doesn't have a lot in there for testing the dash sensor - on the wiring diagram, all it does is highlights one wire on the sensor for brining the coolant light on.

Other than that it doesn't include a lot of detail.

As far as I'm aware both the sensors work the same way by taking the resistance and that gives the ecu the coolant temp, and then the dash temp. I've never actually played about with the circuits so can't say for sure.
