Attempted jump-started, suspect I fused it

My girlfriend was working in Belgium for 6 weeks and when she got back her 1998 (S Reg) Saxo wouldn't start.

It would have been a pain to bump start it so we got the jump leads out and hooked it up to my car. The moment I hooked it up, the central locking activated so I knew there was good contact.

I revved my engine a little and got her to turn the key. Nothing. But now even the lights, radio, etc. are dead.

I put a multimeter across the battery and it's reading 2.6V so I guess we must have blown a fuse.

Any ideas which fuse I should be looking at?

The battery reading 2.6 and your concerend over a fuse...
Try another battery, none of the jump or bump start bollox...

The battery reads 2.6V, so I would expect to get SOMETHING from the cabin light or something. Since I get absolutely nothing, I'm guessing it's a fuse.

Just for the note, when jumping, dont rev your engine, there is no need for it and can cause damage...doubtful that it has... But just it running would be enough to kick the starter motor into action.

A bettery undere 9v is wheree trouble starts to happen, light dim, or not work or such.

Dont go beating yourself over fuses and searching through them, when you can eliminate the easy ones first, put your battery into hers...

If it doesnt run then start to look else where.

A good tip when jump starting is to put the leads on, run let the donor car run for a while, then SWITCH IT OFF, leaving the leads connected, start the dead car ie NEVER have two cars running at the same time when connected, it can cause all sorts of problems, including blowing the diode in one of the alternators, rendering it useless and needing replacing, at great expense and aggro!i hope this helps in case there is a next time, good luck.

is there dash lights wen the jump leads are on ? is the volt meter reading 2.6v wen its conected to the jumpleads?

batteries screwed get a new one or test one out of running car

get a new battery then start looking at other things

new battery mate, no point in checking fuses, cos how u gonna know if thats the problem cos u cant test it with no battery.

No lights or anything, which is why I thought it was a fuse. The battery was reading 2.6V across the 2 battery terminals.

I was intending on checking the fuses using a multimeter.

HOWEVER, all this is irrelevant now as we left it charging for an hour on a cheap 6A charger and it's working fine again. Took it for a half hour spin after we got it started and it's been fine for the last few days.

Thanks for your help guys, much appreciated.
