yes possibly mate , i have the use of the local garage next weekend , when i had the brakes done , i had another go at it with the hammerite but i've seen now that the original citroen sealant is now pealing away from the underside of the car , so im going to have to have a real effort this time with a scrapper / wire brush to get all those nasty bits off and hopefully this time it should last more than one winter ! I was told use waxoyl , but i would really like to hear from folk on here what they have used ? .

Im in the process of undersealing my car. Im useing hammerite underbody seal with added waxyol. Its the paint on stuff so it goes on alot thicker than the spray, heard it can last a few years as it drys really hard.
What stuff did you use? Was it spray or brush on? How long did it last?

i actuly came across some under car sealant today in halfrauds. it was in a metal tin and looked like the stuff to use

    http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/s...egoryId_165594 This stuff ?

Yup this is what im useing, as it has waxyol added to the seal it kills rust and doesnt dry brittle like hammerite paint on its own. It remains flexible to prevent stone chips.
Ive read reports that it lasts a few years, maybe someone on here has some long term experience with this stuff ?

i was looking at that stuff in halfords , car plan have a sealant " tetroseal " which is on ebay , i might give that a go .

Guys you need to use Rust seal : http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

I've used hammerite and the waxyol its rubbish, lasted a few months and then flaked off etc. Rust seal is really hardcore it sets like glue and wont come off and offers really good protection. I spilt it on my hands and i'm not joking i've tried all sorts to get it off and it wont budge!

This was after I applied it to my front arches with a brush:

Btw the brush you use gets ruined you cant wash out the rust seal because it sets like concrete. And always put the rustseal in a bowl dont leave the tin open because it will go hard.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, just areas where I applied this stuff have come off. So personally I wouldn't recommend it. Because its not durable, if a stone flicks up it will chip and start peeling off like mine did. I applied the stuff before last winter and this summer when I checked it the stuff didn't survive the road salts and crap road conditions.

Nah mate it doesn't crack it drys fully to the service and sticks, its really durable and doesnt chip like normal paints and sealents. That waxoyl stuff is like putty, and if a stone flicks up it comes off. If you rub your nail down it the stuff just comes off.

Just trying to save you guys money because in the long run that stuff doesn't last and your end up having to re-apply something else.

Tbh ive spoken to several people who have used it and all say its fine if you apply a good thick coat and has lasted more than a year. Ive just finished mine and it seems good stuff.
Maybe you didnt apply it correctly or used too less ? Not being funny but alot of people use this and if it didnt work then they would stop making it tbh. It doesnt dry rock hard as its flexible so moves with the car parts also giving it the ability to repair itself. That other stuff would just crack imo.

ivw just don my rallye gave it 2 coats of stonechip then 2 coats of hammerite on top just so it looks black, as the stonchip i got was ment to be black but it dries like a dark grey. ive used waxoil in the past but didnt find it that good as it doesnt really dry and all the mud sticks to it, and its a bastard to clean the mud off then

My hammermite underseal seems to work well, my 205's rub on full lock but it hasn't started peeling off other than the exact spot where it rubs.

i have purchased the hammerite waxoyl now , going to see how it lasts this year over winter

Well I was just giving my two cents mate really. I applied the hammerite stuff last year with a thick coat around summer time and when I checked the area this year where I applied the stuff most had been washed off. Maybe its because my car is a daily mate I used it through the harsh winter he had with all the road salts etc. Most of it remained dont get me wrong but there was patches that had gone and tbh if I'm spending money on something to protect my car I want it to last year after year not just say 1 year or whatever.

Tbh mate if it were the case of Rustseal cracking then woundn't the paint on the shell of the car do the same? It sets like a paint mate but is more durable. Lippy on here recommended it to me and I wouldn't look back.

Not trying to be a dick just stating that my experience with the hammerite product was poor. As to your point about they would stop making it well it's a similar situation with T-cut tbh, its not the best at the job but they still sell it because people buy it because they don't know what else is out there. However most people in the know realise that heres a lot better types of products on the market .

You say most of it washed off but then you said most of it remained, lol eh?
2.5 litre was around £17 so for that to last at least 1 year is very good imo, im looking to sell in around a year so i wont be too concerned if it starts coming off after that time. I just think the saying that is only lasts a few months is abit of chinese whispers and i dont believe that

Nah, you wanna use Tetraseal Underseal

its like tar, really thick and sticky, paint it on, it takes about 3 hours to dry, but it goes all rubbery, its very very good. once you applied it, thats it,. you dont need to do it again. ever.

its about £15 for a tub big enough to do 3-4 cars

But be warned... i had to take a bath in Terps because i got it all over me and didnt realise it wouldnt just wash off...

once this shit gets on you... its there for life... So cover up

i need to do my new VTR, so probably gonna buy a Burka and welding goggles! lol

I use white body schutz on my cars, doing the rear of the saxo soon, since the axle is off. Did the passenger front arch a week or two ago...
