how to paint brake calipers?

  1. #1
    hi all,

have tried searching on here and cannot find anything that relates to painting brake calipers.

Just want to know how easy is this to do and whats the process?
Been told hammerite paint is the best thing?

Please can someone help me with a rough guide?

    Cheers

there is a guide on this but think its premium members only.
assuming youre leaving the calipers on the car :-
you would need to jack car up and secure with axel stands etc
using wire brush remove rust and other debris
either apply a degreasing agent to the calipers or wet n dry sandpaper
    clean the calipers again thoroughly
put masking tape on your brake disks and other areas you dont want to paint
apply 1 thick coat of hammerite in desired colour
leave to dry then apply another 2-3 coats

That is the more professional way ^^
But for a quickie just jack it up take the wheel off wire brush and hammerite.
TBH Just gets mucky again anyway
But still a nice little mod imo

I've just done mine with smooth hammerite but took the calipers off.

Found that easier than messing about taping them up

Take the calipers off, wash them dry them, using a wire brush clean all dust and dirt off, then wash again.

Then you dont need to but for a lasting finsih put on a layer or 2 of primer. Sand down to 'key' the area for paint. Paint using a brush. Ive recently tried the hammerite spray and its not as good.

    Then refit.

I'll second that, tried spraying my rockers with their "hi temperature stuff" and its crap! Anything that touches it the paint just rubs off and feels rough as a badgers a**e
