put carb cleaner down the inlet/throttle boddy
and now it wont run properly
wont idle ok and stalls

and its like the rev limit kicks in like anytime it likes/splutters/missfire when driving?

seems to be sucking alot
and if i take filter off
when i turn engine off a little bit of smoke comes out of throttle boddy?

gave it a good run and no difference

ive reset icv
and im getting a eml light?

Engine could be flooded. Try holding the throttle all the way in and turn over the motor for a bit to clear the cylinders then try again

when i had my 306 td i sprayed inlet cleaner into throttle bodie and car cut out and spluttered . but eventually got it restarted. just thinking about how much you sprayed in was engine running and did it make it rev really high ?

have you took it for a run can you get full revs ? just wondering weather too much compression has gone on in cylinders when you sprayed in carb cleaner. try cleaning all contacts on throttle body and check throttle cable is not getting caught

if eml light is on could be in limp mode as well. disconnect ecu from battery overnight to clear it maybe?

As above, how much did you spray in there?

Start it and hold the throttle down a tiny bit for about 40 seconds.
Sounds like youve just flooded the engine, need to burn out all the carb cleaner from the cylinders.

I've drove it about 20 miles. Runs like shit. It's not in limp mode. It won't let me get over 4k revs.

try taking off the air filter etc and then try running it . maybe you have a blockage or crushed air intake pipe

so its like a rev limiter when you get to 4k revs ? maybe a fuelling problem blown fuses ? maybe someone on here with more knowledge shall shed some light mate

right
changed all throttle body sensors
was a slight change
changed map sensor

so i got it on a ecu machine
it came up with

p0110 intake air temp sensor 1 circuit bank 1

you can start the car and it will run fine for 10 seconds then it will just slow the revs down and cut out and will sound abit like a tractor. but it doesnt for the first 10 secs ish.

Not on common for them to come loose.

I had the same issue ages ago, but i always had a faulty temperature sensor.
Used to just go away, v-power and a hardcore rag around used to sort mine, then if weather went cold it would come back.

the blue one i believe. Get a diag plugged in and monitor the temperatures.
Mine was reading something like -1900 one second then be normal the next lol

didnt try it. as my sensor is the old type(singleplug) :@(dfferent wiring)
but i did take it out and the fan came on so should be working

got a unlocked(ihope) 3 plug ecu going to give it a bash tomorrow so touchwood its that.

its one of the weirdest things ever though.

it fucks your ecu(for future refrenece)
after a ecu swap and a bit of pissing about its sorted.

nope its not in limp mode(checked this
as if you drive it slowly it will go over 3k and carry onto 5k

limp mode is no chance passed 3k. and when in limp mode it runs fine but gets stuck at 3k.
i used wynns injector fluid(maybe i used to much) and it must of fucked the fueling up(im no ecu expert but all i know is its working now and doesnt stink of fuel on idle)

& the new ecu is spot on.

I cant see the carb cleaner fucking the actual ECU up unless you have been spraying it at the ECU itself lol. If it fucked anything itll be one of the sensors/injectors etc.

hmmm strange one that i use carb cleaner on my inlet and Tb all the time i give it a clean like every month or so every now and then when start it sounds like a scooby but goes like straight away and i like pour the stuff in use that much haha

Did you have the error log cleared by diognostic equipment on the old ECU?

Yep.I cleared it then started again on old ecu which kept doing same thing. Then new ecu and no errors and no problems for 2k now

Im having the same problem as this but Ive just had my ECU unlocked and it tested fine... bit strange.

I too have done the spraying fuel/carb cleaner into the inlet to fix the problem first time around and it did it not tried it again though as it caughed and backfired etc...

Cleared the ECU error codes using a snap on Diagnostic machine and worked fine for 2 days but now its back again.

Ive tried new lambda, all throttle sensors bar the ICV and tonight im trying a new sensor for the water temp to see if that helps :/

Mine is a 3 plugger vts too...

What ECU would a 2000 MK2 VTS have? 3 plug or 1?

am as thick has shit so cant really tell, if i start takeing things off i wont be able to put it back on

P.S i know ill get the piss taken out off me for asking this.ha

3 plug is 2001 (Y reg) and onwards mate, so yours will be single plug.

Lippy, what exactly does unlocking an ecu do, iv always wonderd? and did you sort the ecu fault, and have you tried an air temp sensor, iv heard this can screw around with idles intermittently
