For my mk1 VTR. the lower ball joint has like a removeable blue plastic cap when i removed it, i found the rubber bush was inside it. Why is it separate, i've always thought the rubber bush was supposed to stay on the wishbone to keep the grease in

not really clued up about this, what needs doing, shall i fill the boot up with grease and put it back on (theres some sort of circlip around the rubber boot)
What grease would i need and how much shall i put in there if thats the case? thanks

its brand new but they're both like that the rubber gaiter isnt split, its just separate on both

id take it back never seen a new one look like that

If the gaitor wasn't separate like that then i'd have said that the blue covers were there just to protect the ball joint during transit. I've never seen a ball joint like that whether its in the wishbone or out. Send them back.

Take them bk, they are not rite, shouldnt be like that!

Blue cap is to protect the balljoint rubber from damage during transit.

The rubber shouldn't come off - send them back and get them to replace them

i changed mine last week mine didnt come like that the rubber meant to stay on the ball joint lol get rid of them!

    The irony,

The blue protector caps that are supposed to "protect" the gaiter have indeed managed to destroy the gaiter.

right im a little confused. i had a good chinwag with my local mechanic, and he said they're fine becuase the ball joint itself moves side to side and not upwards, so the rubber gaiter wont come off. and also the rubber gaiter itself is there to act kind of like a dust cap to stop crap getting into the ball joint. So i ask but wont grease leak out of the rubber gaiter but he said no becuase the grease is actually sealed inside the ball joint.

ive emailed the bloke i bought them off and sent him pictures. a couple of minutes ago i stuck the rubber gaiter back on with the metal clip you can see on the newspaper on the floor. will this be alright/is my mechanic speaking the truth?
