breaking on the motorway

  1. #1
When i break on the motorway my saxo bumps when the break is applied like a constant bump bump bump

anyone know what this is and if its easy to fix

    cheers
  2. #2
    you checked all your brakes?
  3. #3
are the calipers loose and moving,or pads loose?
  4. #4
does the bump slow down as you do? if so could be warped disks
  5. #5
yeah they do, so is that the problem
  6. #6
could be mate, get it jacked up, take a wheel off and spin the disc to see if their is any wobble in it. do it on each one and replace if warped. hopefully problem solved
  7. #7
id get it checked out sooner rather than later.brakes aren't something to put off checking.
  8. #8
Yeah, as above, do it now or tomorrow rather than at the weekend or next week. If there warped you could end up in some trouble if one gives up on you or it shakes the car to bits... not uncommon on these french cars lol
  9. #9
okay im off tomorrow, do i take tyre off and spin the disc?
  10. #10
definitely warped discs, ive got a warped disc and knackered drop links, and it makes an absolute racket when the discs get hot

yeah, wheel off and rotate the disc to see if there's any side to side movement in the disc. if there is, it's buggered and order a new set from http://www.eurocarparts.com

    Job done

ps where in the north west are you mate?
  12. #12
wigan but work in manchester so drive on motorway every day
  13. #13
    them prices are very good
  14. #14
yeah warped disk, not a hurrendously expensive fix but not one to leave (:
  15. #15
so will the pads be fine?
  16. #16
good practise to change discs and pads at the same time, a set of pads for the front can be as little as £15
  17. #17
    is it easy to do?
  18. #18
yeah pads should be okay mate, really simple to change just need the right torx bit to undo the disc retaining bolt, remove callipers, take off disc, and replace with new one.
  19. #19
it can be hard to undo the caliper bolts as they can be quite tight, and getting the new pads in is a pain in the arse, dont worry though they will fit eventually
  20. #20
ahh right cool i will get on to it tomorrow

    cheers for all your help
  21. #21
you shoudnt need to be braking on the motorway anyway lol

    sounds like warped discs

If it's the 1.5d or the 1.1 (as in details) then you shouldn't need to remove the caliper to remove the disc. There is enough clearance with the pads removed to get them off.

Be a good idea to check it is the disk and not the hub once the disc is off too.

Don't forget to clean the hub face before refitting the new discs.

Tbh it is true, warped discs occur from braking too much, leaving your foot on the brake instead of using handbrake etc, so learn to drive lol
